Reap Movie Reviews

Reap

“Reap” begins with a murder. A young woman is asleep in her bed when an intruder stabs her in the back of the neck. Shortly, the same woman crashes a house party. She is barefoot and acting weird, but this isn’t a flashback because the wound in the back of her neck is clearly visible, a wound that was just as clearly fatal. Who are you, the denizens ask? She doesn’t reply “Please allow me to introduce myself”, but you get the drift.

The unnameable one demonstrates his powers, then offers his captive audience a bizarre deal.

Some reviewers have been unkind to this film; okay, none of the cast are A Listers, and the script could be better, or could it? Did they really react so unnaturally, how would you have reacted?

“Reap” scores for originality, the nearest thing to it is probably the 2012 film “Kidnapped Souls”, which likewise is played out largely in one building. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t have a happy ending, but if you sup with the Devil, be sure to use a long spoon.

Free Will

The film opens with a quote by Lovecraft and gives us glimpses of a girl murdered in bed and an escaped lunatic. Meanwhile there is a party at Rachel’s (Annabelle Lyttle ). After some party introduction of people, the dead girl (Fawn Damara Robson ) shows up. Seem the convict is on his way to this house and will kill everyone unless they can offer up six souls. Events happen to convince them that six people must die, so let’s call up people we don’ like, invite them over and kill them. Which could have made for a great film except they went a bit lame.

The cinematography was not that good. There was an early “sex” scene that had some funky editing when the film went black. The characters didn’t impress and neither did the dialogue. The ending went rather fast.

Guide: F-word. Implied sex. No nudity.

better than a lot of the bigger budget horrors streaming now

Stumbled on this indie after watching The Harvesters on amazon, which was meh ok, but this I throughly enjoyed. Given the budget, the storyline kept me pretty intrigued most of the time (with the exception of one ‘flashback’ sequence that was way too long), and I liked the numerous twists at the end. I mean, it’s not The Shining, but what were these other reviewers expecting? The acting was actually not bad at all, but I mostly liked the premise more than anything.
