“But I keep moving forward because I’m an American.”

You wouldn’t know by looking at the guy, but Judah Friedlander is hilarious. What makes him particularly brilliant is that he seems to be doing his routine on the fly, asking audience members questions and reacting to them off the cuff by citing the most obscure references imaginable. And it’s all done in the most seriously dead-pan style possible.

This Netflix comedy special is put together from clips of Friedlander appearing in a New York comedy club covering a number of his routines, and in one case, demonstrates his handling of the same question in a different way, a testament to the guy’s unique ability to think on his feet and react spontaneously. As regards the title of this program, he insinuates America’s greatness by challenging Trump to a one on one in a parking lot, and riffs on dubious statistics like gun crime and murder rates. There’s a particular moment where I had to stop and think about his idea on how to deal with getting pulled over while under the influence – tell the cop you’re a drug war re-enactor! I don’t think you’d get away with it, but it might get you a warning instead of a ticket.

This show is so funny I’ve already watched it four times and even when you know the punch line that’s coming, it’s still hilarious. Seriously, as a patriotic American, you owe it to yourself to watch this show. Judah Friedlander is probably the greatest comedian appearing in it.

I don’t usually like stand-up comedy movies, but this one is hilarious.

‘JUDAH FRIEDLANDER: America IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE UNITED STATES’: Four Stars (Out of Five)

The new stand-up performance documentary feature; following comedian (and actor) Judah Friedlander, as he performs stand-up comedy at various different venues. As you can probably guess by the film’s title, most of the comedy in the movie is political as well. Friedlander also wrote and directed the film, and it was released by Netflix through their streaming site. I don’t usually overly enjoy stand-up comedy flicks, but this one is pretty funny. I really enjoyed it.

The feature is filmed all in black-and-white, in a very low-budget basic style. The camera shots are all of Friedlander, from about 10-feet away (at what would be an audience member’s point-of-view). His jokes deal with imperialism, Donald Trump, and other political and human rights issues. They’re mostly told from a very satirical, exaggeratedly patriotic point-of-view too (and they’re mostly hilarious as well).

I’m becoming a big fan of Judah Friedlander; I’ve loved him in comedic horror flicks (like ‘FEAST’ and ‘SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE’), but I hadn’t seen any of his stand-up comedy before this. I have seen him on political news commentary shows that I watch (like ‘THE YOUNG TURKS’ and ‘THE JIMMY DORE SHOW’, my favorites), so I also knew I really agreed with most of his political views. That’s what actually encouraged me to watch this film, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed by it. Like I already said, I don’t usually like stand-up comedy movies even, but this one is hilarious. I definitely recommend it.

He has the ability to joke about any topic thrown at him, it’s impressive. You will be entertained from start to the end. Tons of sarcasm and ironie, exactly how it should always be.
