Wonder Woman 1984 Storyline

In 1984, after saving the world in Wonder Woman (2017), the immortal Amazon warrior, Princess Diana of Themyscira, finds herself trying to stay under the radar, working as an archaeologist at the Smithsonian Museum. With the memory of the brave U.S. pilot, Captain Steve Trevor, etched on her mind, Diana Prince becomes embroiled in a sinister conspiracy of global proportions when a transparent, golden-yellow citrine gemstone catches the eye of the power-hungry entrepreneur, Maxwell Lord. Now, as a dear old friend from the past miraculously enters the picture, and Barbara Minerva, Diana’s insecure gemologist colleague gives in to desire, suddenly, deceit, greed, and false promises catapult Maxwell into the limelight. Embarrassing

I am embarrassed for the cast and the crew. You keep watching this and trying to find someone, something, a scene, a character that is praiseworthy so you find some balance and nada.

It is uniformly sordid.

The most embarrassing however? The studio that budgeted, approved and released this. The laugh is on them!

This is not Wonder Woman

It’s Superwoman.

She can fly (and yet has to steal a jet earlier!?!?) Anyway her squeeze shows up 100 years later and flies a modern US Airforce jet!?!?!?

What is this rubbish?

Surprisingly poor

This sequel turns out to be a surprisingly poor affair, suffering from the usual problems like slow pacing, reliance on cheesy humour, and overlong running times that always seem to mar modern superhero movies. The characters are back for a new setting (not that this feels very ’80s aside from the satire on greed copied from WALL STREET) but this is almost action-free and the CGI fights are purely by rote. Even worse, we’re saddled with the lamest villain in a superhero movie in the form of Pedro Pascal; he’s not imposing at all, just mildly amusing, and the ending as such is a real damp squib. How could they get it so wrong with all this money behind it?
