Honey: Rise Up and Dance Storyline

Aspiring street dancer Skyler (Teyana Taylor) is at a major crossroads in her life. She’s decided to try-out for the same dance crew as her formally trained sister Tosha (Sierra McClain) in order to compete for a college scholarship, but is discouraged by her family and boyfriend who doubt that her raw, edgy talent is enough for her to win. Determined to prove them all wrong, Skyler practices nonstop in Atlanta’s underground dance scene and catches the eye of Tyrell (Bryshere Y. Gray). He helps her take her sexy dance and hip-hop battle skills to the next level in order to achieve her dreams.

Honey: Rise Up and Dance Movie Reviews

They think that is Hip Hop???

I love dance movies from Center Stage right up to Step Up but this movie is such a let down. I loved the first Honey movie so many moves from it were used in dance competitions. When it was first released it was new, fresh and exciting for young dancers to copy Honey and make it their own feeling confident on the floor. Personally I hope to never see 90% of the choreography in this movie in a competition or dance movie again, its not dancing when all you’re doing is feeling yourself and shaking your ass. Granted both can be incorporated into a routine but they should not be all of what it is comprised of. If this is the future of dance movies and Hip Hop dance in general I feel truly sorry for future generations of upcoming dancers.

6.5 to 7/10. Not as bad as the others

I can’t lie: I’ve hated the “Honey” franchise. The dancing is always basic and the storylines were never great. I guess you don’t really watch Honey for that.

This movie, though, was solid. It was nice to watch people who danced and looked to enjoy it. The chemistry among the cast throughout this film was noticeably better, too. I still wish the storyline was stronger but I did enjoy it.

6/10 – some pretty terrible acting (except for Charmin Lee), but good choreography
