UFC 285.

Nickal winning the opening fight quick and easy. Turner thwarts Gamrot’s takedown attempts early and landed shots, but Gamrot has success in the 2nd and 3rd, getting the win solely through wrestling. Neal eating a lot of shots in the third fight, Rakhmonov getting the late standing submission. Grasso has a strong 1st round against the champ, Shevchenko controls her with takedowns following, until Grasso catches her off guard by instantly jumping on her back in response to a spin kick and subsequently chokes her out. Shevchenko almost held out to the bell, but she may have gone unconscious first, Grasso becoming the new title holder. It’s was a uniquely successful one-time strategy by Grasso’s training camp. Then the main event, in which Bones defeats Gane so quickly it’s not funny. He controls the center of the octagon and gets a takedown, followed by an immediate choke submission. Jones becomes the new heavyweight champ, after a 3-year hiatus, the Goat!

Worst fight was the headline

Funnily enough the worst fight of the card was the headliner. Jones dominated so hard that it made for extremely brief and consequently terrible viewing. To all those that actually paid for this fight and thought it’d go somewhere else, my heart goes out to you.

The fights before the headliner, however, were absolutely AMAZING. 2 submissions and 1 decision. Can’t argue with results like that. Also, a hugeeeeee upset between the two women fighting, I’ll not use names so as not to spoil that particular fight, because it was really great.

But, such a shame about the main event. Brief bouts are always disappointing but, when you’ve waited 3 years to see a man return, it’s somewhat worse. Nonetheless, there’s reconciliation to be found for those of us that waited said 3 years. And it’s found in just how hard the GOAT dominated what some people thought would actually be a challenge for him. All I have to say to that is:

LMAO.
