The Blackout Storyline

A rag tag band of idiots on the verge of signing a recording contract is sandbagged by their lead singer, Chas Knopfler, into throwing the mother of all parties the night before they embark on a world tour. Eddie Mesmer, the rhythm guitarist, awakens to find his drummer, Toss Dunbar, hanging from a tree like a scarecrow, and the house completely destroyed. Eddie and Toss quickly realize that A: they can’t remember anything and B: there’s a dead guy in the pool. Now, they have to figure out what happened the night before or their Rock and Roll dream is over. Their only hope is State Dependent Learning, which is the scientifically proven fact that information learned while under the influence of a given “substance”, can only be recalled and used to solve a task when you are in the same state. Or in Layman’s terms… They have to drink to remember. The prior night’s debauchery comes back to them as they get Halfway to a Blackout against insurmountable odds. Will Bad Math realize they’re greater than the sum of their parts in time to keep their mostly-virgin asses from jail, and salvage their dream of rock superstardom? I’d tell you, but I’m out of Vodka.

I DON’T REMEMBER THE LAST THING I REMEMBER

If you read the DVD cover you will immediately think about “Hangover.” Unfortunately the script writing lacks the cleverness and cohesiveness of a “Hangover” script. The film is about a British band that try to piece together the events of the previous night in a haphazard fashion. Eddie (Scott Rosa) is the voice of reason and songwriter for the group. Chas (Michael Graziadei) is the drummer who does more drugs than is humanly possible, even for Keith Richards. Toss (Flood Reed) is a crude unlikeable guitarist who’s only goal is to use women. Gunther (John Joyce) is the fourth member of the band. The writers ignored him for much of the film. They wake up to a trashed house and a dead guy in the pool. All the action takes place at this one residence.

There are some funny scenes and lines, but over all the movie lacked any type of rhythm. Chas resembled Zach Galifianakis which was a plus, but the added two characters of Toss and Gunther did more to hinder the story than add to it. The band girls were underutilized. The film has a certain amount of crudeness as expected for this genre, with a few scenes being more crude than funny.

Watching a bunch of guys play beer pong is boring. It is an acceptable young adult romp rental at best. Good for a few laughs.

The Blackout is worth the watch

This movie provides a peak at some major up & coming talent. I found the dialogue and humor to be impressive considering the budget involved. I would recommend giving it a view and watch some of these names show up more often in various roles because I saw a lot of range. I felt at first that I was to watch a horrific reboot of The Hangover, but it was instead surprisingly unique and refreshingly comedic from the typical type of comedy we've been force fed for years. Once you allow the characters to settle in, the movie takes off and your treated to impressive writing and witty humor. I thoroughly enjoyed and it reminded me where great talent starts.

Press play and you’ve got an instant cult classic.

The best way to describe this movie is Spinal Tap vomited the Hangover in Almost Famous' mouth in front of some Airheads. I love rock and roll movies and this one delivered in spades. I love this movie! I've seen it probably five times and I have laughed out loud every single time. The acting is solid all across the board with each actor bringing something different whether it was the drummer's hilarity, the singer's arrogance masking real emotion, or the bassists sage advice they were all so fun to watch. There was plenty of eye candy too, but I could have used more boobs, though what they do instead of showing sex is one of the funniest things! Next time you're in the mood to just have a drink or a smoke and watch a fun flick this is for you and your friends, and their friends! I have already made a lot of people laugh quoting this flick. College kids everywhere pre-gaming on the weekend while watching this. Seriously, if you like fun, boobs, and blacking out you will love this! My only real complaint is that I would have loved to see the band play. Check this out! Must see!
