Laggies Storyline

Megan’s approaching 30 with a good degree and a boyfriend in hand, but when he proposes at her friend’s wedding and everyone seems to think that the best way to advance in her career is to take a seminar where you find out what animal you are, Megan understandably feels lost. After meeting teenagers who want her to buy them beer, Megan is drawn into 16-year-old Annika’s simpler life. She ends up moving in with Annika and her single father, juggling the life of a teen and that of an adult, two romantic interests, and the feeling of lagging behind.

Laggies Movie Reviews

a bit disappointing

Megan (Keira Knightley) is in her late 20’s and lost. She has a degree in family therapy from grad school but don’t feel right for the work. She’s the bridesmaid in her friend Allison (Ellie Kemper)’s wedding. She catches her father (Jeff Garlin) cheating on her mother. Her boyfriend Anthony (Mark Webber) proposes. It’s all too much. She befriends Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz) and her high school group by buying them booze. Instead of going to a self-improvement seminar, she hides out in Annika’s house. She falls for Annika’s dad (Sam Rockwell) and feels more comfortable with the kids.

The premise seems fun and interesting. Knightley and Moretz are a good pairing. The movie works well as long as it’s them. Anthony is a waste of time character. The movie needs less of him. Sam Rockwell is too obvious and is almost annoyingly cliché. This movie works much better when Megan does things to help Annika. I want to like this from the premise and the actresses. The movie is good with them but it doesn’t do anything else worthwhile.

JUST SHIFTING

Meagan( Keira Knightley) is a 20 something who has her degree and doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. She was part of a group of four girls all BFF, but she now feels out of place with them as they have moved on in life. She lives with Anthony (Mark Webber) who is also a procrastinator. Multiple events at a wedding cause Meagan to need some “me” time. She befriends Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz) and crashes at her place. After being interrogated by her father (Sam Rockwell), an unorthodox divorce lawyer, she is allowed to stay under false pretenses.

At this point the dramedy becomes pretty formula. I love anything Keira Knightley. She plays interesting roles and always puts on her “A” game. The film was a light drama. It was somewhat romantic unless your a guy like Anthony who just lost his “live in” gf to a guy she just met who has more money. Not that I am still bitter about it. Good acting and entertaining.

Guide: F-bomb. Brief sex. No nudity.

Grow Up

My summary line is actually the title this movie got in Germany. Keira Knightley, Chloe and Sam Rockwell are phenomenal in this. Even if you feel like this is lagging (no pun intended) in some respects, they make up for it. And there are moments that feel like they are dragging, but Keiras character is always accessible, even if you don’t agree with the things she’s doing.

If you come to accept her and her flaws and many faults (speaking about the character), you’ll be able to enjoy this for what it is. A chance encounter leads to a lot of things that could have been avoided. Lies and schemes, with the goal to find one self. Will it be successful? And where will it take all those involved? Should you be allowed to “reboot”? There’s a lot going on here, but everything is kept in a light mood most of the time. A good romantic little drama
