Phantom Project Movie Reviews

Good acting. The plot left me scratching my head.

I enjoyed certain aspects of the film. Mainly the acting and the actors. I thought the images of the phantom were very clever and artistically done.

But I had a tough time keeping track of who was who, or in whose apartment we were in at times during the movie. And in fact, at the end of the movie, I wasn’t QUITE sure how things ended up.

The descriptor of the film suggests that the ghost or phantom inhabits a certain sweater. Yet, it manages to cause mischief, and pack itself away for a trip (from whose apartment I know not) despite the suspect sweater being nowhere nearby.

It also seemed to travel back through music, so, there’s that interesting but mysterious point.

I liked the main character. I liked his neighbor downstairs (but not as much as I liked him). But most other characters remained a bit of a mystery to me – especially as they related to the ghost.

At one point during an acting exercise, someone whispers something that I thought MIGHT be germane to the plot into our hero’s ear. But we never know what was whispered. That left me thinking I missed something very integral to the story.

I’ll never know.

Five stars for the acting and cinematography. Not that I didn’t like watching it. But couldn’t rate it any higher because I couldn’t really figure out what (if anything) actually happened.

Phantom Project

Pablo (Juan Cano) dreams of being an actor but until that happens, he’s paying the bills doing the only acting role he can find, playing a patient that medical school students can practice on, as well as taking part as a paid member of alternative therapy sessions.

Much of this movie — well, maybe not the ghost but who knows — comes from the life of Chilean filmmaker and screenwriter Roberto Doveri, whose friends make up much of the cast.

Pablo had been just surviving when his roommate leaves, which leaves behind back rent, some clothes, lots of plants, a dog and, yes, that ghost that we see entangle itself in everyone’s life by way of incredibly effective animation.

Your mileage may vary on this as it’s talky and meandering, but then again, a ghost has sex with a guy and you don’t see that all that often, so it is something.
