Craving Movie Reviews

A successful slow burn, the payoff is well worth the wait!

I can’t review a slow burn movie without invoking Jaws, because while I’m not usually a fan of slow burn movies, I do appreciate them when they’re well done, and Jaws is one of my favorite horror movies. Low budget indie slow burns are usually a mess, they don’t typically have the quality of acting, writing, or pacing to pull it off. Craving, however, is a slow burn success. While most successful low budget horror movies lean heavily on high kill counts and constant violence to keep the viewers interested, Craving is very character driven, and the director J. Horton, and the actors are skilled enough to pull it off. Horton’s effective use of flashbacks aid in the storytelling and character development. I never found the time long, I wasn’t looking at my watch, Craving is well paced and clocking it at just under 90 minutes, it’s the perfect length for what it is.

Once the shark is finally revealed, so to speak, the results are fantastic. Robert Bravo is an SFX master, and the practical effects in Craving are top notch. The creature in Craving looks great, and the carnage, when it finally comes, entirely justifies the wait. Lovers of violence and gore will leave feeling satisfied. No spoilers, but one kill in particular is going to have audiences talking!

Craving is a better than average indie horror movie, fans of the genre should definitely check it out when they can.

Mean Little Mutha

Craving is a fun low budget horror riff on siege films , most notably older crime dramas like The Petrified Forest and The Desperate Hours. This time the characters trapped by forces within and outside their environment (a seedy bar) are drug addicts who come unglued as their situation intensifies. The concept is strong if not fully developed, the look is impressive, the music effective, and the acting ranges from good to competent (no performance sinks the proceedings or sticks out like a sore thumb – overall, better than average). The addiction theme is a nice wrinkle. I chuckled at a few good lines and instances of gore during the hour-long buildup to what I really wanted to see, the practical effects monster, which is well designed but ultimately lumbers a little too much like something out of a Larry Buchanan film for my taste. Still, the wait was worth it, because the fun jumps to 10 when the creature goo finally hits the fan, and most B-movie horror fans should finish this one glad they gave it a chance. I had my doubts early on but enjoyed it enough that I plan to watch it again. Bonus points for coming in at a lean 84 minutes. Full disclosure: I contributed a few bucks to the film’s Indiegogo, but I’m a straight shooter when it comes to these things and wouldn’t have reviewed it at all if I didn’t like it.

Reminds you of the good ol’days!

Craving is a great throwback to those video store horror films of the 80s and 90s! The cast and crew did an outstanding job making this a fun and enjoyable film from start to finish! Great lighting, great practical fx and a great genre flip help this story move fast and slams you with a crazy monster that should satisfy any horror lover! Actors did a solid job building the tension and developing a chemistry on screen with one another.

You could tell by watching this film that the entire production was having fun and a collaborative effort was made telling this low budget flick!

If you like monster movies Craving is worth the watch!
