Revenge of the Bridesmaids Storyline

In New York City, published novelist Abigail Scanlon, who believes a second success isn’t going to happen in having a case of writer’s block, and actress Parker Wald, who goes on more auditions than gets parts due in large part to self sabotage in having self doubt, have been friends since the second grade in Lambert, Louisiana, that Louisiana life which they try to have solely as part of their past. In heading home for Parker’s parents’ thirtieth wedding anniversary, they run into the third and fourth in their group of four closest childhood friends. From what they have learned through keeping in touch, Rachel Phipps, the shy, quiet one who has never left Lambert, has found the man of her dreams in Tony Penning. The fourth, Caitlyn McNabb, they had not kept in touch with in discovering that she is a narcissistic b****, Abigail and Parker, as children, who were blinded by Caitlyn’s family’s wealth and being able to play at the family estate, Bellefontaine. Caitlyn became what she is by her controlling mother, Olivia McNabb, to who money and prestige is everything. Three times married Olivia taught Caitlyn to believe that it isn’t who one marries that matters, but what he is is in providing for that life of wealth and comfort. It is at one of Caitlyn’s pre-wedding gatherings that they run into both Caitlyn and Rachel, who along with three of Caitlyn’s sorority sisters are the bridesmaids. The groom?: Tony. When they learn directly that Rachel is heartbroken in still loving Tony and learn through the grapevine that Caitlyn is probably marrying Tony for his money so that now broke Olivia can keep Bellefontaine while Caitlyn herself can have her dream wedding, Abigail and Parker take it upon themselves to break up the wedding from the inside in maneuvering themselves into the roles of two replacement bridesmaids so that Rachel and Tony can have their meant-to-be happily ever after. In moving from plan to plan with further information coming to light such as why Rachel did not put up more of a fight for Tony who still loves her as well, Abigail and Parker have to decide how far they will go to achieve their mission, especially as Parker starts to fall for Lambert Police Lieutenant Henry Kent, who may not be able to overlook anything of a criminal nature. They may find that overcoming Olivia’s maneuverings may be the most difficult hurdles.

Revenge of the Bridesmaids Movie Reviews

needs more fun

Abigail Scanlon (Raven-Symoné), Parker Wald (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), and Rachel Phipps (Chryssie Whitehead) are lifelong friends. As kids, they were befriended by rich Caitlyn McNabb (Virginia Williams) and her gold-digging mother Olivia (Beth Broderick). Abigail goes on to write a successful book. Parker is a struggling NY actress. Rachel stayed home with longterm boyfriend Tony Penning. Abigail and Parker go home shocked to find Caitlyn’s expected groom to be Tony and a humiliated Rachel as her bridesmaid. Olivia is on her fourth marriage. Local cop Henry Kent is taken with Parker. Abigail and Parker vow to sabotage the wedding from the inside.

Despite coming before Bridesmaids, this can’t help being overshadowed by its more famous cousin. Raven and JoAnna are functional TV comedic actresses. They should be getting into all kinds of irreverent hijinx but they are often hampered by sad sack Rachel’s story. It needs to be more fun than this.

GOOD MOVIE CHEMISTRY

The movie is predictable. The humor is snarky. There are some plot weaknesses. The characters are unrealistic. But it spite of whatever criticism I could come up with, the fact is that it worked well to give us a very enjoyable film. Raven-Symoné and Joanna Garcia-Swisher absolutely shine in this LOL comedy about 3 girls determined to ruin the wedding of their childhood girlfriend Caitlyn McNabb played by Virginia Williams. Caitlyn is getting married to Tony, the former boyfriend of Rachel (Chryssie Whitehead). She claims she is pregnant by him and in this small Louisiana town, that is what they are expected to do. Rachel is still in love with him, and the girls suspect something isn’t right.

Not The Greatest, But Kinda Fun

I happened to catch this movie a while back and gave it a shot because I like Raven-Symone and Beth Broderick. Of course, with this movie you need to keep in mind that it’s an ABC Family original movie, so it’d be silly to have high expectations.

Yes, I noticed a big issue 20 minutes before the characters did, and knew exactly how things would turn out for the bridesmaids halfway through the movie, but I still enjoyed it. No, the movie will probably not wow you. I honestly can’t remember laughing a single time throughout (but I think the “Saw” movies are funny, so that probably says something.) The acting was fine, and the plot was just okay, but I did like the Raven and Joanna Garcia dynamic.

In my opinion, it was just a pretty standard ABC Family TV movie. If you enjoy this type, you’ll probably like it. If not, you won’t.
