The Strays Storyline
Neve, who leads an idyllic life in the suburbs with her loving family, and works a fulfilling job at a private school. WHEW…dull as dishwater.!
Really?
The entire movie made zero sense and it was at the very least poor and not at not all entertaining.
There was no valid point for the original brother to kill the father who was just as perplexed and on their side to boot and the original daughter goes nut-case just to go that route.

Uber Eats?
Then, they aren’t careful enough and let the mother just leave?
The guy had a bag of assorted tools, ties and probably ropes in his bag, but the family isn’t restrained?
Outside of Ashley Madekwe being an attractive actress, the rest of the cast was mediocre.
Like I always say…at least the cast and crew got a payday!
Disappointing despite great promises
I’m a big fan of social thrillers, and I was pleased to see that authors other than Jordan Peele or Bong Jon-Hoo would try out the genre, and encourage this kind of movies.
But as Netflix films often do, they take an interesting concept… and don’t push it far enough. The shots were great, not revolutionary but enough to build a good atmosphere. I was really intrigued by the psychology behind each character, even if the main plot twist is easily guessed. For the first hour or so, I was captivated. But there were still 40 minutes to fill… and we all know how a great ending is important to make a good thriller. Before getting to spoilers, let me tell you : this one fell flat…
SPOILERS : The main actress was pretty impressive, until she wasn’t. We couldn’t seem to empathize with her because she was built as shallow, and that’s a bit underwhelming. In fact, most of the characters aren’t likeable. We can’t have sympathy for the two children of her past. And for the love of god, movie producers, stop hiring adults to play teenagers, it’s a bit confusing at first, I thought that Marvin was her ex-husband…
The ending seems unjustified. Why would Marvin murder the husband who wasn’t rejecting them and on his side ? Just for the sake of a gory plot twist, I guess. And I was so frustrated that Cheryl never had an honest conversation with her kids, or that we never got a grasp at her psyche other than “I wanted to be rich, and I escaped an abusive husband”. I mean, this part is barely mentioned, what the hell …? Seems like a pretty big character background that could have been foreshadowed in her attitude.
On the racial commentary part, some scenes were smart, but again, too brief to have an impact, and felt unnecessarily provocative. To people comparing it to the 2017 Get Out, it has NOTHING of the subtlety and wit of the dialogues in it.
Overall, despite good acting and shots, I was disappointed by the writing and the plot. It left a bitter taste in my mouth. Come on, Netflix, you produced The Plateform… I know you can do better than this !
Avoid Like the Plague
This was the most pointless excuse of a movie I have ever seen. I want my time back. It started off very promising and just went all the way down under the hill from there. Acting was terrible maybe because the script was sooooo poor. So sad. I’m so angry I can’t give it less than a star. The only thing worse than sitting through it to see if it would by some chance redeem itself, was the ending. Such a waste of my time, energy and electricity. Wish I had read the reviews before watching this mess. My goodness the rubbish that passes for entertainment these days is astounding. Find something else to watch!
