Shaky Shivers Movie Reviews

Extremely boring and unfunny

I love horror. I like comedy. I love horror/comedy. I hated this and it’s the first movie I’ve ever walked out of.

I can definitely enjoy a silly, dumb horror film, but this one was just unbearably boring and the “comedy” was non-existent. I saw this is a theater with multiple people, but it was dead quiet the entire time I was there.

I wanted to leave within the first 15 minutes, but I really tried to give it a fair chance. I finally gave up after a whole hour of boredom and zero laughs.

I’m honestly upset that I spent hard-earned money on this considering I have a very strict budget and haven’t been able to go to the theater in awhile.

Fun and lighthearted to a fault

After encountering a strange woman, teen friends find themselves thrust into a strange scenario involving one of them being turned into a werewolf and try to cure it only to bring about more supernatural shenanigans that drag the two into a wild adventure to end it before the curse consumes them.

This was a somewhat disappointing genre effort. A lot of that stems from the somewhat obvious family-friendly approach here that never really brings about a deranged atmosphere. With the joke-filled relationship they share that never once manages to evoke a thrilling environment that brings about no real sense of danger from the situation, the early half of this one is a bit of a struggle to get into as they try to figure out what’s going on. Even as things escalate and more creatures appear around them, this one still manages to be way too jokey and lighthearted to make a lot of this feel genuinely scary or thrilling. That said, when it decides to abandon that and go for the wackiness present in everything, this one isn’t too bad. The confrontations at pay are somewhat fun and even engaging at times with the use of black magic making the ongoing situations feel quite engaging constantly topping what came before it. Bringing about the use of werewolves, zombies, and the living dead through this setup, these encounters with a lighthearted tone are somewhat fun as the interactions throughout the woods and surrounding area are all quite enjoyable. Also featuring a fun sidestory about the power of friendship, it does have some great qualities in spots.

Rated Unrated/PG-13: Violence and Language.

Fun, original, and well done

This is more of a comedy than a horror show. When it come’s to horror, it’s more of the campy/silly/zany type. At it’s heart, it’s about friendship – especially of Lucy and Karen. I liked the morality aspects of the movie too. The plot was original and it’s so nice to see that in a movie.

All the acting was good, especially for the main characters. It was also great that one of the main characters was named “Karen” and was a nice person. My name isn’t Karen, but I know some people with that name, and think the way the name (or any name) has been co-opted to mean something terrible is ridiculous and needs to stop.

It had solid laughs throughout. I don’t like gore (but do like suspense), and I only had to shield my eyes from the screen a couple of times. I especially liked the way they handled the “eye injury,” and had no problem seeing that. The special effects caused some laughs – in a good way.

I loved the ice cream shop setting. I worked in a ma-and-pa ice cream shop in the 80’s and thought they nailed the set/feeling with that one (how it looked and what went on inside it). I loved the spell book and all the humor that went along with it.

I saw this in the theater and didn’t know there would be information about the show ahead of time. Wish I’d arrived earlier!

I wish this played in the theater longer. Look forward to streaming it. Would tell anyone to watch!
