Dear Tenant Storyline

Yo-yu is a 9-year-old orphan who lives with his grandma and Mr. Lin, the tenant in their rooftop flat. Lin looks after Yo-yu and tends to the daily needs of Grandma, who suffers from late-stage diabetes. In everyone’s eyes, Lin is a kindhearted gentleman. But when Grandma passes away, everything changes. Yo-yu’s uncle Li-gang returns to Taiwan and discovers that ownership of Grandma’s apartment was transferred to Yo-yu, whom Lin has legally adopted: the property is now effectively under Lin’s control. Li-gang contacts the police with his suspicions. An autopsy finds narcotics in Grandma’s system, prompting an investigation that reveals a very different side to Lin. Police recover a deleted gay-sex app on Lin’s cell phone, and one of his hookups turns out to be a drug dealer. Just as he is about to be arrested for Grandma’s murder, Lin takes Yo-yu and flees deep into the mountains.

Conclusively devastating

Cheng Yu-Chieh composed some normative issues like same-sex partnership, parenting and multi-generational relationships into conclusively devastating Taiwanese family drama. Mok & little Bai’s exquisite performances brought such pain and love in equal degree.

Holy Friday

Sacrifices one has to make in the name of love. For me, what the film is trying to to convey is that the circumstances in the story are just so real. It can happen especially in places where there’s no legal recognition of same sex union. If you are you someone who are nursing a broken heart for whatever reason can really make you melancholic in a way. Acting wise, its not over the top, just the right amount of pink salt here and there. I like the light-heartedness in the scene where he asked his mother in law if she really is in pain. And the boy, (Yo Yun) was on point, and mind you, he’s just a little boy in real life. Anyway, after watching the movie, i sang this song “Kiss today goodbye And point me toward tomorrow We did what we had to do Won’t forget, can’t regret What I did for Love”.

To learn acting

Story is dramatic but it’s not too over. A warm heart gay cares the senior and a kid but treated as a suspect of an incidence. Story is quite predictable and its quite heartwarming for his act. I focus on the acting of the actor more in this movie. Somehow acting cannot be taught and born to be have this talent. I got a feeling actor Mok is one of the kind.
