Vengeance Movie Reviews

Heart Sees Heart

Wow. I did not expect to be so impressed by this heartland-whodunit-comedy.

The writing is top-notch, albeit a little too polished in parts. The examinations of the legacies we leave behind and the urge to commodify or gain notoriety off the backs of others’ grief and trauma were really well explored.

I also wasn’t expecting the found family themes to be so well portrayed and for Ashton Kutcher to steal every scene he occupied.

A breezy watch at a tight sub-two-hour runtime. It might be in my top 5 for the year-top 10 for sure. Will definitely watch it again before it leaves theaters.

Not every white guy needs a podcast

I had zero expectations heading into this, I just went because it was the only new release at the cinema that I hadn’t seen. I sorta loved the opening dialogue, it was like observing two people that don’t understand enough of a certain subject matter but still proceed to discuss it like intellectuals, it sounds witty if you turn your brain off. The writers made the conversations unintentionally funny especially with Ben with Texans, due to the different cultures everything he said was taken literally. It was also a peculiar situation to be in, unwillingly attending a one night stand’s funeral. I liked how it starts with him with commitment issues to slowly falling for someone, too little too late, even though it wasn’t explicitly shown, and grew close with her family.

Ashton Kutcher was the best part of the movie and his character really elavated it for me; I think it’s one of his better roles. It’s great to see the range, started off as Kelso to now Quentin. I loved how Ben kept having talks with people alluding to how online dating and hookup culture are ruining society and distancing people but this man just wasn’t getting it lol. It has a lot of heartfelt and philosophical moments; I was left surprised as I didn’t expect much of the movie but it leaves you with a sad realization of how the world is now(Quentin’s monologue towards the end). I thought what Ben did kinda went against his character and a little impulsive but the movie quickly moves on from that.

I probably enjoyed it more than I would have because I went in expecting a mediocre mystery adventure film but it ended up being funny, impassioned, sad and philosophical in the end. On initial thought it doesn’t come off sublime but I love it and would definitely recommend. I feel like it’s best going in blind like I did but I have now increased your expectations after reading this.

It’s not what you think…..

I don’t even know how to really explain this film without divulging but suffice to say it’s not what you may think. It shows how today’s social media society is quick to judge and it shows how wrong or shallow that judgement can be. While each character has varying moments on the film, the entire cast is very, very good with their timely execution of their insightful and sometimes comedic lines. A lot of substance in this film so if you’re looking for a little distraction like Thor, DC Pets or Minion, this is not the film. If you want some sound acting and solid characters, Vengeance is worth seeing (along with Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Where the Crawdads Sings)
