At his age who is looking for identity, Abby (Ari Irham) always makes his sister, Indah (Aghniny Haque), as a figure he admires. Suddenly, Abby had to accept the fact that Indah was lost in a plane crash. Abby, who is difficult to let Indah finally become closer to Sephia (Taskya Namya), his sister’s best friend. But could the presence of Sephia help Abby release his sister or leave her instead?
Though promising, ‘Generasi 90an: Melankolia,’ directed by M. Irfan Ramli, fails to fully flesh out the film and, unfortunately, too many missteps harm a story that had the potential to be more about grief, loss, and letting go. The cast is good and the film is technically well made, but its lack of character development, much less sympathetic characters, make for a trying, sometimes baffling experience.
