Kisaragi Storyline

One year after the suicide of C-list model Kisaragi Miki, five of her fans come together for a commemorative meeting; fan club leader Iemoto, Oda Yuji, “Snake”, Yasuo, and “Strawberry Girl”. After meeting each other for the first time, they reminisce about their idol, wondering how someone so bright and happy could have possibly taken her own life. As they discuss her death, the facts, and evidence, they slowly come to the realization that her death didn’t occur they way they thought it did. The more they talk, the more the case takes shape in their minds, and the closer they come to the truth.—Ginny

Kisaragi Movie Reviews

A idol and 5 fans

This is a pretty good Japanese comedy although it doesn’t put much emphasis on the humor aspect. For those that understand Japanese humor will be right at home with this one and chuckle or even laugh few times through this movie. Some Japanese people are known for really liking their idols and even collect a lot of the idols products and visit their idols fan sites a lot. But in this case the plot shows 5 fans with different personalities of a idol named Kisaragi Miki getting together for a memorial meeting. After the suicide of their idol a year later and most of this film takes place in a room with imaginations floating around suck as speculations if their idol really committed suicide and such for the 5 characters in the room. This movie wouldn’t have been all that good, but the way it’s set up makes the film entertaining to watch and because it’s crafted very well. Despite the characters hardly having any proof with their conclusions, it was interesting to watch the pieces connect in a strange and yet in a way where it grabs the attention. And how those ideas fit the characters personality. This movie starts off a bit slow with the introduction of the characters and their personality. But when it the entertaining and intriguing parts kick in, it’s that way most of the way through. I also found it funny how the 5 characters are all dressed in suits most of the way through and it slightly reminded me of “Reservoir Dogs” because of the way they act amongst each other, well sort of. Overall despite not having a lot of set pieces most of the way through or a lot of stuff going on, this is still a intriguing movie for the most part…Especially the way it reveals the characters ideas bit by bit and as the story unfolds.

Excellence in story telling

Funny, funny, funny movie! “Kisaragi” is a hilarious comedy about a 1-year anniversary memorial party for a deceased D-list idol Kisaragi, attended by five men from an online message board. The idol is said to have commit suicide, but one of the attendees suspect someone in this group is the murderer, and finger pointing begins!

The entire movie consists of arguments between these five men in the same room, with couple of imaginary reenactments scenes. It almost feels like watching a stage play. I don’t want to spoil, but this movie has one twist followed by another, and the ending is pretty deep, though there was an Otaku-dance that was really stupid. What surprises me most though, is that the scriptwriter actually came up with a story as unique as this one. The setting for this movie is so crazy, and so are the characters, yet completely feasible in real life and their arguments are constructive. The characters’ gradual developments were really entertaining for me, and their love toward this D-list idol was beautiful. All five actors played their parts flawlessly.

This movie does feel like a tribute to ’12 Angry Men’ (1957) at first with the entire story set in a room, and the men trying to solve a case using logical deduction with limited evidence, and coming up with a conclusion that cannot be verified. However, this movie is completely different in that every single character is somehow involved with the person in question, and provides new evidence that completely changes the whole picture.

This is an unique movie that really delivered. This film explores the power of the human imagination, ambitions, and desires. The story was so well-organized and gives us a conclusion that makes perfect sense with the information given. I hope to see another surprising movie like this in the future.

Funny and charming

I thought this was going to be just a silly, superficial comedy, but while it is genuinely funny, it also has a lot of heart and emotion to it. Also the story just develops on and on in unexpected ways, always keeping you guessing. It’s a really enjoable ride. I liked it a lot!
