Morning Glory Storyline

Becky (Rachel McAdams) is a hard-working morning TV show producer, or at least she was until she got fired. Desperate to get a job, she finally gets an interview with Jerry (Jeff Goldblum) – who is desperate to hire a producer for the struggling show “Daybreak”. Becky accepts the job and it proves to be more difficult than even she might be able to handle. She has to fire the sexist co-host, then try to convince egotistical news reporter, Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford), to take the job, and then try and get him to actually do the job, properly. And she has to do this while falling for handsome Adam (Patrick Wilson), and trying to save the show from plummeting ratings. Will Becky be able to hold on to her dream job and her sanity?

Morning Glory Movie Reviews

better to drop the rom in this rom-com

Becky (Rachel McAdams) is a hyper hard-working morning TV show producer, then she gets fired. She then gets a job at one of the worst morning show on air. She quickly fires the sexist co-host, and then tries to replace him with burnout reporter Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford). Diane Keaton plays the other co-host, and Patrick Wilson plays the handsome love interest Adam.

Rachel is trying a little too hard to be manic. She doesn’t have to keep hitting the door. And the love interest has no chemistry. It’s better to drop the rom from this rom-com altogether. It works much better as a simple workplace comedy. There is much better chemistry to work the childhood hero angle with a grumpy Harrison Ford. In fact, their relationship takes the place of the traditional rom. Heck they even walk off into the sunset together.

Nice little comedy

With a romantic touch that is. It’s nothing special, but the actors involved have so much fun, it might be contagious! Still you might want to erase one or two points if you’re not ready for too much sugar, for predictability and other downfalls this movie clearly has, which are more than eradicated (in my mind) with the appearance of Mr. Harrison Ford himself along a wonderful Rachel McAdams.

Actually Rachel couldn’t do anything wrong, when it comes to my book, but she still isn’t able to make this an exceptional movie. Same goes for the other actors, who try their best (and in person Ford succeed), to make this worthwhile

Morning Glory

This film was talked about a little on Film 2010 with Jonathan Ross, I can’t recall any films I had seen before this that was a comedy starring the Indiana Jones actor, so I was interested, from director Roger Michell (Notting Hill, The Mother, Enduring Love, Venus). Basically Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) has recently been fired as a hard-working morning TV producer, and desperate for another job she is interviewed Jerry Barnes (Jeff Goldblum), producer of the struggling show “DayBreak”. After pretty much begging for the job he offers it to Becky and she accepts, but for a little while it proves harder than she thought it would be, however she does settle eventually. After confidently firing the handsome morning show co-host Paul McVee (Ty Burrell), she needs to find a new co-host to join Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton), and Becky thinks she has found the perfect. It takes a while for him to agree, due to the fact he prefers hard-hitting news stories, being an award winning caster, but grumpy anchor Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford) eventually accepts due to his contract soon ending. After some time it finally comes to the day when Colleen and Mike are on screen together, and they do develop a fun on screen banter together, especially for the final “goodbye”, but the ratings continue to drop. Jerry says that if the ratings don’t pick up within two weeks, the show will be axed and replaced by soap operas and game shows, so Becky improvises some big changes and eye-catching stuff, such as weatherman Ernie Appleby (Matt Malloy) riding a roller coaster on screen, and Colleen likes these new segments. After dating for so long Becky’s boyfriend, fellow producer Adam Bennett (Patrick Wilson) thinks she is too addicted to her job, and Mike advises her not to become like him and get no personal life. The ratings for “DayBreak” are really boosted by Mike turning up at the governor’s summer house and uncovering a story that ends up with the arrest of the governor for racketeering. Now that “DayBreak” is back in consciousness, Becky gets a meeting with The Today Show, before this Mike lost his cool with her refusing to adapt to all changes, but she is pleased to see him on TV, during the talk, doing what she asked, and in the end she runs back staying with the show she has improved. Also starring John Pankow as Lenny Bergman, Patti D’Arbanville as Becky’s Mom, Ty Burrell as Paul McVee and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson. Ford does really well as the overly cranky and sometimes sarcastic news anchor turned morning TV presenter, Keaton is likable as the renowned co-host, and McAdams does well as the woman who has to keep everything in order. You could say this was a bit predictable most of the time, possibly borrowing elements of Broadcast News, and it could have been a little more satire based, but it is a reasonable comedy. Worth watching!
