Batman: Gotham Knight Storyline

In this 6-story anthology collection, Batman faces new villains and old ones in a time-line after Batman Begins. In “Have I Got A Story For You”, 3 kids tell wildly different stories about Batman during a fight through Gotham. “Crossfire” focuses on two policemen who end up getting in the middle of a crime battle. “Field Test” has Lucius Fox creating a new technology for Batman, but is it too powerful? “In Darkness Dwells” features Killer Croc and Scarecrow, who have kidnapped a priest. “Working Through Pain” goes through flashbacks of Bruce Wayne’s training while Batman finds his way through the sewers. Finally, “Deadshot” focuses on the titular sniper, who has a new target in Gotham.

Batman: Gotham Knight Movie Reviews

A very interesting Batman movie

Well it’s not necessarily a movie, more a collection of 6 shorts. But it is entertaining and interesting on the whole. The animation is generally very good, very atmospheric and stylish though the character designs in the first couple of the stories seemed rather stiff to me. The music is exhilarating, full of rousing themes and quite powerful use of instrumentation. The writing is generally smart and intelligent, especially in Working Through Pain, and while the stories in the first story and in Crossfire are rather thin structurally and forgettable, those of Darkness Dwells and Working Through Pain have the brooding intensity and Gothic pathos Batman is known for, a big reason why I rate these stories so high. The characters are wonderful, Batman is still charismatic though somewhat out of character in Field Test, Scarecrow and Deadshot are great foils and while I would have loved to have seen more of Killer Croc it was still a pleasure to see him. The voice acting is spot on, Kevin Conroy IS Batman as far as I’m concerned. In conclusion, a little uneven-the last 3 stories are better and more memorable than the first 3- but still interesting and very well done. 7.5/10 Bethany Cox

Batman: Gotham Knight

Batman: Gotham Knight is an anthology of six Batman stories with a Japanese Anime style.

It has been influenced by Batman Begins and The Dark Knight with the cartoon opting for a darker tone.

The first story are a group of skater kids recalling stories of their encounters with Batman, which all differ.

The last is Batman taking on Deadshot hoping to put his own past to rest.

Given the nature of six short stories it does zip along well before anyone gets bored.

However it comes across as a minor piece. This would had been evident if anyone watched The Dark Knight which was released in the same year.

A major disappointment for a huge fan of Batman

I had grown up watching the batman TV shows as a kid, to later watching all of the live action batman films. About a year and a half ago i delved into reading almost all of the famous batman comics. I’d been working my way through watching all of the DC Animated Universe films when i came across this one. What a catastrophe this is.

The idea to make an animated film that would show Batman’s life in between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight was a good idea. This movie had so much potential. Then for some reason they decided to split the film into shorts, all done by different animation companies. All of these companies are awful. Trying to sit through the first short in which there is poor animation, and a story about skating kids dreaming about batman encounters for twenty minutes is torture. However you hope in your heart that it will get better… it does not.

This film does not deserve to have ‘Batman’ in the title. A dull and boring movie with horrible animation makes for a major disappointment for a huge fan of Batman.
