The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel Storyline

The authorized musical of incomparable gospel singers, The Clark Sisters, recounts the story of the highest-selling female gospel group in history and their trailblazing mother, Mattie Moss Clark (Aunjanue Ellis). Credited with bringing Gospel music to the mainstream, the five Clark sisters (Christina Bell as “Twinkie,” Kierra Sheard as “Karen,” Sheléa Frazier as “Dorinda,” Raven Goodwin as “Denise,” Angela Birchett as “Jacky”) overcame humble beginnings in Detroit, enduring abuse, loss, rejection, betrayal, and sibling rivalries to achieve international fame as icons of the Gospel music industry.

The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel Movie Reviews

Great movie but should have been longer

The last quarter of the movie felt extremely rushed and didn’t provide the details of the events it mashed together at the end. Wish they would have done a 3 part movie similar to some of BETs past movies because this story definitely deserved it. Overall though awesome movie and all the ladies did great. Wonderful singing and beautiful tribute!

Praise worthy

Aunjanue Ellis is the most underrated actress in Hollywood! She turns out great performance after great performance. The movie as a whole was entertaining and educational. I had no idea of the turbulence they endured. My only criticism would be I wish that there was more music. The music is what made them stars. But I won’t end on that note. The casting was spot on. KeKe did her mom proud and Amber Riley was on point as Denise. Well done to all!

We need a series!

This should have been a series. There is far too much to cover when it comes to the Clark Sisters. From Matties relationship with her husband and her diabetes, Twinkies emotional breakdown, Dorindas suicidal ideation, Denise leaving and her 7 kids, Karen’s stay in a coma for WEEKS & so much more. Everything was skipped. It’s like they pressed fast forward. They deserved better than this. Their stories together and individually are so important to tell especially for the black Christian community. However I did enjoy it, especially the wonderful vocals by the actresses. But the Clark Sisters deserved so much more.
