Neowolf Storyline

When an aspiring rock musician TONY returns to his college town to make up with his estranged girlfriend ROSEMARY, he finds his life taking an unexpected turn to the dark side when he encounters a mysterious rock band NEOWOLF led by rocker VINCE and the alluring band girl PAULA. When Rosemary’s best friend KEVIN turns up dead, Rosemary seeks out a Nursery owner MRS. BELAKOV who knows the secrets of an ancient evil.

Essentially just another stereotypical werewolf movie…

I stumbled upon the 2010 horror/thriller “Neowolf” (aka “The Band from Hell”) in 2021. And of course with it being a horror movie then I took the time to sit down and watch it, as it was a movie that I hadn’t already seen before.

And I will say that while “Neowolf” is a watchable movie, it just fell short of being an overly memorable or entertaining movie. It was a bit too monotonous and bland for a werewolf movie. And it was definitely a movie that had come in under the radar back in the day for me. Just as it is a movie that will just as quietly slip back into oblivion without having left any lasting impression on me.

The acting in the movie was actually fair enough, though the actors and actresses had very little solid material to work with in terms of an interesting storyline or properly fleshed out, pardon the pun, characters here.

Visually then “Neowolf” was just another generic werewolf movie, though you shouldn’t expect any impressive transformation scenes. Nor should you expect to see some impressive creature designs on the werewolves when they have shapechanged.

“Neowolf” is a very bland experience, and as such my rating of it lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

So this rock band, led by a man known only as Tony, comes back to his old college to win back his ex-girl Rosemary, but the band Neowolf gets in the way. Soon, people are turning up dead and yes, werewolves come on the scene. Bark at the moon, indeed.

Director Yvan Gauthier took his name off this, so he’s listed as Alan Smithee.

This is probably the most interesting part of this movie: The sex scene with Rosemary is not actress Heidi Johanningmeier, but a body double hired by producers months after the film wrapped. That happens all the time, except that no body double credit is on the film and Johanningmeier went to the Screen Actors Guild and won her case.

Putrid

Some slut is giving some guy head in the back of his van when they’re attacked by a werewolf thus begins “The Band From Hell”. The main plot is about Tony who comes home to his college town in hopes of rekindling his relationship with ex-girlfriend Rosemary. She doesn’t want to hear anything about it even though Kevin, her gay best friend, is attempting to smooth things over between the two. Tony is able to win her back in no time at all though with a song sung at open Mic night, but Rosemary isn’t the only one amazed at the performance, as the Romainian rock band, Neowolf, wants him to join their band (their previous band mate was killed earlier in the movie). He’s then promptly seduced and turned into a werewolf. It’s up to Rosemary to save him.

Rosemary is a love-struck idiot it seems, I couldn’t buy why she thinks Tony is a werewolf, basically she just sees a picture of him screwing another girl & automatically jumps to that conclusion. What?? Really?!? With the general conceit of the film so ridiculous, I found it hard to get into all that followed. Especially since it was so inane, badly acted, and the special effects were slightly below “Buffy”-caliber. And the last half hour gets REALLY bad.
