Close to Home Storyline

Close to Home is a legal drama that tears away the facade of suburbia to reveal that sometimes quiet and tranquil streets can hide the darkest of crimes. Annabeth Chase is a young, aggressive prosecutor with a perfect conviction record who tries the cases that come out of her own neighborhood. Returning to work after having her first child, Annabeth is ready to take on the most difficult cases, fueled by her passion to protect her community and her family. Challenging Annabeth’s legal strategies is her new boss, Maureen Scofield, a no-nonsense lawyer not afraid to push her hard. Leading the team is Steve Sharpe, who is one of Annabeth’s biggest supporters but is concerned about how her cases will play in the media. Annabeth’s husband, Jack, is devoted to their family and is a rock for her to lean on when the challenges of her job start to infringe on their home life.—SoMeONe

Do yourself a favor and watch The Closer instead.

The acting is very, very bad … it’s like they’re reciting lines or performing … posing. I don’t know if it’s because of the actors, the director, or the script. And the characters are cut-and-paste stereotypes that don’t stand out from other shows with their own distinguishing traits. Very generic.

The stories are decent enough. But for a cop show with a strong female lead, with much more emphasis on the personalities of the show, as well as their interaction, you’re better off watching The Closer. Also formula-ic, but a lot more fun to watch. By the fifth episode, you might catch yourself saying “Thaink yoouuuu”. 😀

Jennifer Finnigan have no support

Annabeth Chase (Jennifer Finnigan) is a suburban wife and an aggressive prosecutor with a perfect record. She is a new mom returning to work. Maureen Scofield (Kimberly Elise) climbs over her to be her new boss. Her husband Jack Chase (Christian Kane) is killed off at the end of the first season.

This is a crime legal procedural. It started with an interesting secondary home life story. Jennifer Finnigan is likable and compelling. Maybe it didn’t gel for the writers. There is a massive overhaul for season 2. The first season seems to work well but maybe there were problems behind the scenes. Sadly it never took off. The changeover did nothing but cause disruptions. Finnigan was left to struggle by herself and the show got canceled after 2 seasons.

They made a big mistake….

The producers made a big mistake by killing off Annabeth’s husband Jack at the end of the first season. Then introducing a new “love interest” really turned off a lot of viewers. Instead of having the setting in Los Angeles or New York City the show was based out of Indiana. You had your mid-west background which worked.
