Australia’s Joe Avati was the Surprise of this show.

Judith Lucy hosted this show of basically a few interviews with Australian comics appearing at the Just For Laughs Festival in Canada. In order to stretch this show to 1 hour – most of the show is loaded with OLD clips from previous Just For Laughs, with teasers prior to the commercial breaks advertising “name acts” – such as “Coming up soon Ray Romano.”

The surprise of this show was Australia’s Joe Avati. I didn’t know who he was. He has become one of the biggest comedy acts in North America, yet here in Australia, we barely know who is, until I checked out his website at joeavati.com – and realised that his show is bi-lingual and appeals to Italians. Judith’s interview with Joe and the clips from Joe’s (English) Just For Laughs performance were fantastic & funny. Almost makes me want to learn Italian so I can go to a show of his.

Overall though, the special was funny and some of the older clips chosen worked in the context of the show – although dated. Because of the dated clips, giving this a 5/10.
