Critters 2 Storyline

Over two years after the events of the first film, Brad Brown (Scott Grimes) is now 15, and returns to Grovers Bend to spend Easter Weekend with his Grandma. Leftover Krite eggs that were in Brad’s old farm are taken and mistaken for Easter eggs, unleashing the Krites onto the entire town. Luckily, Ug, Lee and the former drunk Charlie (Don Keith Opper), return from space to help Brad, the now retired Sheriff Harv (Barry Corben), Brad’s crush Megan (Lianne Curtis) and the rest of the town fight the Krites once again.

Critters 2 Movie Reviews

I’M BACK

Critters 2 picks up where the other one leaves off in Grovers Bend, Kansas. The eggs left behind are placed too close to a heater and a Children’s Day Care. The alien bounty hunters return as does Brad Brown (Scott Grimes) the teen hero in the first film. Brad develops a love interest in a teen reporter (Liane Curtis) a “Jimmy Olsen with breasts.”

With the characters established, this film moves quickly into the action which provides us with more camp than the first feature. The Critters are less hidden from the camera in this feature. I enjoyed the sequel more than the original. Nothing like a little girl on a tricycle being chased by Critters.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs or sex. Nudity (Cynthia Garris)

You think I’m funny?

Well if you think the movie is funny – you are right. And while anyone involved with Critters is avoiding talking about similarities with Gremlins (script was written before, didn’t know about the existence of the other franchise) this movie goes almost full comedy – something Gremlins 2 did … too. On the other hand, the first Critters movie was already quite funny. So there was always humor there – still you could argue this took it to the next level.

It may have quite some flaws, but it also has quite some memorable scenes. And I’m not talking about the transformation into a Playboy model (there is nudity in a PG13 movie – say what? Apparently if it is not sexual you can show female breasts), but about a big … ball. All in all this screwball comedy horror mix works quite nicely. I remembered them fondly and revisiting them was the fun I expected it to be

Classic 80’s

Much better than the subsequent films, but not nearly as good as the first. Settings, characters, nudity, and other important basics are pretty much the same as the surprisingly-good original. The movie? Well those furry devils aren’t all gone and we get to see the main characters a few years later. Of course looking at it as an adult now I can saw the timeline wasn’t very good – not enough time passed for the age of the characters involved or all that the back story claimed happened.

“Critters 2”, however, drives the point home just in case you couldn’t figure it out. The Critters now have more scenes involving “mischief” as they tear up restaurants in all sorts of silly ways, accompanied by sight gags, slapstick and plenty of cartoon sound effects. The Critters also develop the ability to speak broken English, too, only adding to their status as Gremlins clones. While “Critters” was far from a serious horror film, Critters 2 starts the series down a more humorous path that a lot of fans didn’t exactly cotton to.
