Crocodile Dundee II Storyline

Living with Sue after she stopped him from leaving New York City to go off and explore America, after she confessed that she loves him, Australian Crocodile Hunter Michael J. ‘Crocodile’ Dundee still trying to adapt to life in New York City and getting use to a different culture is about to use his hunting and survival skills yet again, when Sue is kidnapped by crime boss Rico and his associates, when Sue’s Ex husband photographer Bob Tanner witnesses a brutal crime and takes snapshots of the crime and sends them to Sue. Mick rescues Sue from Rico and his associates. Mick decides to take Sue back home with him to Australia, as his best bet of protecting Sue. But when Rico and his associates arrive after tracking Sue and Mick down, Mick takes them on by doing what he does best.

Predictable and a tad lame, but actually pretty enjoyable too

I enjoyed the first film and while this sequel isn’t as good, it is very enjoyable. I agree the story is predictable, parts of the comedy don’t quite work and the film is overlong. But… there are entertaining parts, especially Paul Hogan’s outback approach to urban life, Hogan is every bit as likable as he was in the first film, the scenery and photography are excellent, the direction is solid on the most part and I think if there is something it improves on from the original it is brisker in pace than the first was. Linda Kozslowski is nice too. So overall, not as good as the first but entertaining and better than the third by a landslide. 7/10 Bethany Cox

the novelty is gone

Mick Dundee and Sue Charlton are now living in New York. Everybody likes him although he doesn’t always fit in. He befriends Leroy Brown and starts delivering for him. Sue’s ex-husband Bob is working for the DEA in Colombia. He gets killed by the cartel after sending some photos to Sue. Sue is kidnapped by thugs and Mick comes to the rescue. After escaping, Mick takes Sue back to Australia where he’s most comfortable.

Crocodile Dundee remains a fun character but the novelty has worn out. Everything that was forgiven in the first movie is now sticking out like a sore thumb. Linda Kozlowski remains a stiff actress. This sequel tries to ramp up the intensity by adding a drug lord. This is inferior but there may still be some life left for lovers of the original.

A superior – and funnier – sequel

CROCODILE DUNDEE II is a sequel to the surprise Aussie hit which catapulted Paul Hogan into fame as the irrepressible Outback hero. This one offers more of a same, but the plot is completely different this time around, featuring a gang of Colombian drug dealers who kidnap Mick’s girl, forcing him to go on a Rambo-style rescue mission. I actually prefer this to the original, although it’s not as fresh or iconic, purely because it dispenses with the romantic stuff and focuses instead on the action-adventure template.

The New York material is very funny, from Mick’s abseiling antics to the dumb cop scenes, the Japanese tourists, and the great suicide attempt scene. Things move to the Outback for the climax and remain just as entertaining, with John Meillon giving a fine swansong performance (the actor died soon after release). The jokes are funnier than ever and the plot, dealing with the constant outwitting of the bad guys, never lets up despite a lengthy running time.
