Columna Storyline

The Roman Emperor Trajan has just murdered all the local men of Dacia and holds a military stronghold in what will later become Rumania. He places a Roman centurion in his place to occupy his latest conquest. After lopping off the head of the Dacian warlord, the soldier uses his blood-stained hands to dine on cheese and bread, unable to suppress his laughter. The centurion has a change of heart when he is put in charge of the region, freely dispensing justice and forgiveness to the conquered inhabitants. When the peace is threatened by marauding barbarians in masks of fur, the locals help the Romans fend off the invasion.

Romanian cult movie

This is the best mythological movie that the Romanian cinematography gave to the world. The historical informations are true in the most part but being so few about the times in witch the action took place, they are spiced in abundance with many mythical ideas about the Dacians and the Romans of that age. The main characters are the prototype of the Romans and Dacian leaders,each one having all the qualities and defaults of their nations and about each you can say that they have the best and the worst from their worlds. In the end they give birth to the Romanian nation, symbolized by a boy whose father is Tiberius and teacher becomes Gerula. Gerula is by far the most powerful character in the movie being the best incarnation of a Dacian in all the Romanian and foreign cinematography. This movie has become a “cult movie” in Romania and it’s right to be so.

WOW !! VERY GOOD FILM ! I don’t know what else to say, I’m not a professional so I don’t wanna do it injustice, so I’ll leave it to few words: Gerula – I totally relate to him (except for beating the kids, that’s wrong). One of the strongest characters I’ve ever seen, making me proud as a romanian to have such an ancestor.
