An excellent documentary showing us nature in its glory…

This has to be one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. The cinematography is amazing, the narrator has everything down perfectly, and the wildlife they show throughout the series is very interesting and colorful. The film crew travels all over the globe to capture nature’s greatest moments, and they pull this off with ease.

I would highly recommend this documentary to anyone. It is quite comparable to Planet Earth or Animal Planet.

Life

After the tremendous success of the extraordinary and revolutionary nature documentary series Planet Earth, a similar programme was bound to follow, and indeed it did. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, this series uses the same special camera normally in the film industry to slow down the quickest action and get close to it. The programme sees how the animals and creatures of all parts of the world manage to survive, looking at what they eat, giving birth, fighting, looking after each other and much more. Throughout the programme we see reptiles and amphibians, mammals, fish, birds, insects, hunters and hunted, creatures of the deep, plants and primates. It was interesting to see the familiar animals and creatures you have seen many times in other programmes, but also the ones you have probably never seen. Filled with colourful worlds, magnificent living things and hearing the wonderful narration by Attenborough makes this just as brilliant as its predecessor, a must see. It won the Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming “cinematography team”, and it was nominated for Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming (Single or Multi-Camera), Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming. Very good!

Wondrous Life

Despite how much he apparently dislikes the term “national treasure”, that term really does sum up David Attenborough to a tee. He is such a great presenter (in his 90s and still sounds, and looks on a side note, great) and whenever a new series of his is aired they are often among the best the BBC has done in years.

Am a great fan of a lot of Attenborough’s work and BBC’s nature documentaries with his involvement are among their best work in years. Have been watching the BBC less over time, but there are always exceptions, unexpected gems and expected treasures that come our way every now and again and their nature documentaries are the perfect examples of expected treasures. ‘Life’ is a crowning achievement for a documentary series and actually, like the best documentary shows, feels much more than that. As far as Attenborough’s work goes too, ‘Life’ to me is one of his biggest achievements.

‘Life’ is an exceptionally well-made series first and foremost, in fact saying that doesn’t do the production values justice. It is gorgeously filmed, done in a completely fluid and natural, sometimes intimate (a great way of connecting even more with the animals), way and never looking static. In fact much of it is remarkably cinematic. The editing is always succinct and smooth and the scenery and various habitats are remarkably diverse and look speechlessly spectacular.

On a documentary level, ‘Life’ continually fascinates and illuminates, while there are some familiar facts here a lot of it was very much new (like a lot of the principles of evolution) and by the end of the series for me more was gotten out of it, and educated me much more than, anything taught when studying Geography in secondary school. Attenborough’s narration helps quite significantly too, he clearly knows his stuff and knows what to say and how to say it. He delivers it with his usual richness, soft-spoken enthusiasm and sincerity, never talking down to the viewer and keeping them riveted and wanting to know more.

The wildlife and life-forms are both adorable and dangerous, the wide-ranging diversity of what was included was staggering and it was lovely to see a mix of the familiar and the not-so-familiar. How they adapt to their environments, why they behave the way they do, how nature works and how what the wildlife and life-forms do affects their environments were all touched upon and made their points subtly, not hammering it home too much (a potential danger with documentaries).

Many powerful and poignant moments, as well as suspenseful ones, while not trying too hard to evoke a viewer reaction. One really cares for what they’re told and the wildlife. Each episode doesn’t feel like an episodic stringing of scenes, but instead like the best nature documentaries each feels like their own story and journey, with real, complex emotions and conflicts and animal characters developed in a way a human character would in a film but does it better than several.

Overall, a crowning achievement, for Attenborough and nature documentaries in general. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Magnificent

I saw this show in Boston. You will be viewing all these musicians at the top of there game. And this stage is like the UN. Musicians are from around the planet.Try to watch this on a good sound system – you will not be disappointed. Hans Zimmer is our century’s Beethoven. Extraordinary.

That’s what good sound systems are made for!

I have a sort of ambigious opinion when it comes to Hans Zimmer. He seems a little arrogant in interviews and has created something of a recognizable ‘Hans Zimmer sound’, especially in the 90s with his scores of Crimson Tide, The Rock and the sorts. I didn’t think he was that versatile and quite often I thought he composed some rather uninspired scores.

But then I watched this performance on bluray on a good sound system… and was blown away.

When you compare the ethereal soundtrack of Gladiator to the spiritful Lion King, to the tearjerking Chevaliers of Sangreal or to the almost brutal Dark Knight you can’t help but marvel at the sheer emotional power these pieces develop.

The musicians are all top notch and seem to be having fun on stage. Zimmer also has lots of nice words to say about everybody and doesn’t seem arrogant at all. He’s just a musician in his element.

The performance is nicely captured and the sound quality is simply breathtaking.

See this if you’re a lover of powerful, emotional music and like watching great musicians at work!

Very Rarely do I give a 10 and to a concert of all things?!

I wasn’t aware of who Hans Zimmer was until The Dark Knight.. I saw a special they had detailing the journey to create “The Joker’s Theme”.. the way he explained it and created the piece was brilliant.. in essence, he wanted whosoever hears it to always know there’s something hovering around.. a menace almost.. everyone should feel uneasy and on the edge of their seats.. it was right then and there I knew the brilliance of Hans. I didn’t google his resume or know what movies he’s done but this concert? Do yourself a favor and watch it.. turn up the music, sit back and you’ll be smiling beginning to end

The story of one of Maharashtra’s most impactful artist

Most people who know Shahir Sable know him as a prolific, famous singer, but the movie brings forth his contribution to not just Maharashtrian folk culture, but also to Maharashtra’s and India’s freedom struggle.

Along with donning multiple hats in the art field as a producer, director, writer, singer, Shahir Sable was also actively involved, initially, in India’s freedom struggle with Sane Guruji, and later in Maharashtra’s freedom struggle.

Shahir Sable’s life from his days as young ‘Kisna’ in Pasarni to Padmashri Krishnarao Ganpatrao Sable is portrayed on screen with songs composed by Ajay-Atul interlaced with the story.

The songs and the background score beautifully blend with the screenplay. It’s a treat to watch and listen to “Jay Jay Maharashtra Maaza…” at the end.

As was the case, unfortunately, with most artists in those days, Shahir Sable also had to go through a phase of financial difficulties while bringing his plays to life. However, it is Maharashtra’s fortune that he diligently stuck to his vision and kept entertaining and educating the people, despite the hardships he endured, and today we can enjoy his contribution to art.

A must watch Documentary

I am really not a fan of Reggae music, but I was taken by the powerful song, and voice of the singer, after watching the documentary. I went so far as to buy the vinyl LP. So glad I did!

Must see documentary!

Having bought the record inevitability leads to wanting to see the documentary and join the experience in the search for the mystery singer. Totally understand the quest Chris started and amazing to see that little clues here and there eventually lead to finding the Holy Grail and meanwhile putting the spotlight to the beautiful history of Jamaican music.

NOT an URBAN comedy or tale from the hood. NOT a movie about NARCOS or IMMIGRANTS. Just regular people of different races experiencing a moment of life together. This is DIVERSITY. These are the stories and images of which we need so many more. Not more minority-themed movies, but more human-themed movies that happen to have different races. This is how we come together and learn more about one another.

Funny, touching and worth a watch

A movie that is rich in the full continuum of diversity that I found funny, touching and very well acted. Touched with a bit of satire and humor, the story is a good one bolstered by good direction. Funny but gives you enough to think about after the credits I would recommend.

Really original and fun!

This movie is super creative and funny! The story makes fun of how stereotypical Hollywood and its executives can be, all while existing as its own unique film with a diverse cast. Well worth watching! Great work from Jennifer Sharp and the whole cast & crew.

Una great movie within a movie

What an original, imaginative piece. Beautifully shot, an homage to a small Mexican village and the people who live there, some wonderful actors and all of it ably crafted by Jennifer Sharp, who brings into focus the many factors that exist in bringing one’s dream, in this case a script to fruition on the big screen. There’s also a case to be made to follow your truth and be strong enough not to listen to every Tom, Dick, or Harriet’s opinions.

Saving Mes Aynak Storyline

Saving Mes Aynak follows Afghan archaeologist Qadir Temori as he races against time to save a 5,000-year-old archaeological site in Afghanistan from imminent demolition. Good show

This is one of the greatest stand-up show ever. If you are not Turkish you may not find it funny, because jokes are mostly local cultural jokes that Turkish people face daily basis.

Watch it if you’re really a lot of free time

That’s just average show.I give 4 stars for Cem Yilmaz’s talent.He has a talent who shows funny jokes even it doesn’t.I can’t believe people give more points fundamentals more than C.M.Y.L.M.Z.First of all C.M.Y.L.M.Z a mix show of Cem Yilmaz’s old shows so you can’t blame him like ‘always same old jokes’ but unfortunately fundamentals not that lucky.It’s a new show and you’re waiting new jokes but you can’t find it.Entire show about sex and woman-man relationships maybe different stories but same jokes.Only 2 parts of show not about sex,1-food and tourism business (which only part in show what i like) 2-Cem Yilmaz’s tries to look cute his snub attitudes.Last couple years Cem Yilmaz turn to a snub who mean to people and media.He turns to Okan Bayulgen lately.Cem Yilmaz wants to give him a credit about that for example some people wants to take a photo with him but he’s not even answer.Excuse;he takes a lot of photo lately.A lot of celebrity people don’t go until last person take a photo with him(i can give a lot of exam about it) because they know if these people doesn’t exist they’re job been meaningless. two criticism more 1-Why so much English language? Cem Yilmaz saying something Turkish and translate it English like if you’re saying something English it gets funnier.

2-Historical and scientific faults. For example Graham Bell part;first of all there’s a lot of doubts about Graham bell and finding telephone.OK let’s give it a side,Graham Bell’s wife can’t talk with Bell from another room because she’s deaf person. but if you’re look at the Cem Yilmaz works you use to that kind of bullshits like 1.000.000 years ago people and dinosaurs live together(in A.R.O.G)but it comes to other movies,Cem Yilmaz highly critic it like Day After Tomorrow,2012….

I am not kind of snub guy who says if sex and comedy come together its just bad but even Cem Yilmaz’s sex jokes way away from creactivity.

We love cem yilmaz.

But my critism is using too much english jokes. Yes i understand them all but i find it cheap and lame. I feel like he is bragging about knowing english. Which half of the world already knows at the age 15. Older standups are 20 stars this is 9.
