Lily Rabe is excellent, more than capable of holding her own as a lead and nice understated comedic performance. She’s not the problem with the film.

It definitely feels like the Directors first attempt at a feature, there’s a fair amount of moments in here where you think “that could have been better”. The semi-realist, wandering lens moments are particularly clumsily done and feel anachronistic – certainly could have been done in that style, it just seems as if the director had a “that’ll do” attitude and a checklist of cultural beats to hit.

Which leads me to the soundtrack, trust-fund bands doing covers of songs that would be pertinent to the film if the originals were used, but they were – so you just get the sacharine “new” version with the rough edges sanded to a cookie-cutter banality. Particularly egregious was the opening track, the worst cover of “Pump it up” ever – not a great intro and put me in the mindset of instant dislike.

Again, Lily Rabe does all the heavy lifting here, this could have been an 8/10 film if the director did it again.

Quite boring waste of time and money at triple speed to watch, short-sighted, trivial, tasteless, lengthy and boring, mysterious and illogical, can’t stand it anymore, maitre ridiculous, not a movie, just a documentary, worse than documentary, meaningless argument, inflexible, stiff, fallen, long winded, nagging, naomi moron julia lunatic, totally nonsense, unconscious, moaning for no reason, said reality but not related, depth but not depth, obviously another commercial that been sponsored by lunatic tobacco company, do nothing just smoking only, if don’t know how to make a film, just donate money to people.

Quirky, original, enjoyable 1983-based small-town dramedy

In quirky but enjoyable 1983-based small-town dramedy “Downtown Owl” Lily Rabe (terrific) escapes her troubled marriage by taking a short-term teaching assignment (under Hamish Linklater) in the titular tiny Dakota town where she goes thru something of a drink fuelled breakdown while interacting with local characters like Ed Harris (still a class act), love interest (or not?) Henry Golding, and colleagues Vanessa Hudgens & Finn Wittrock. Linklater (on his movie writing debut) adapted the screenplay from Chuck Klosterman’s novel, and also co-directed with actual gf (and fellow first-time director) Rabe – props to both of them for such an original & likeable film.

Great storyline and animation.

Monster Island is a great film because of its animation and unique story line. I love how the monsters are animated. I also adore the story line. It’s something I’ve never seen before.

Monster Island is about a boy named Lucas who’s a monster, but doesn’t know it since his dad hid it from him his whole life. His dad has given him a potion to stop him from turning into a monster by hiding it as an inhaler. When Lucas forgets his inhaler at home to go the biggest party of the year, he turns into a monster which scares everyone. Luckily, his dad comes to the rescue with his inhaler which turns him back into a human. His dad explains what’s happening and where he got his powers from. Turns out, they’re from an island called Calvera. Lucas goes on an adventure to find this island. But will he find it? Watch it to find out!

The animation reminds me of Frankenweenie and Coraline which are some of my favorite Halloween movies. Unlike Frankenweenie and Coraline, Monster Island is all computer animation. However, it looks like claymation. I’m fascinated by the attention to detail. Every monster is unique. There are squid monsters and humongous monsters who tower over people.

I love the characters in this movie. Two of my favorites are the two police officers. I love their banter as they try to catch Lucas, but always fail. I love how the pumpkin monster is the “brains” of their team while the deer head monster is the tough dumb one. They had me cracking up the whole time.

The message of this movie is to accept yourself. Lucas’ uncle tries to become a monster since he never became a monster. He felt left out because all of his family are monsters, but he isn’t. Although his family loves him either way, he still tries to find a way to become a monster through science.

I rate this film 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to ages 6 to 10. You can find this incredible movie online now so, go check it out. Available on YouTube, Google Play, Budi and more.

Interesting Effort

Sometimes a teenager feels like a monster and this is an entertaining movie that tells you about her and a secret fantasy world.

The animation seems a little rustic but it is a style of its own.

I caught the idea of trying to connect and assume its origin as a monster and find in its roots its own identity.

The story seems simple but I think it is ideal for boys if they want to entertain with the problems of puberty in an exaggerated way.

The animation is the weakest part

It certainly only caters for its target audience, though ‘Monster Island’ has its moments and I’m sure the young generation will like it.

The animation is the weakest part to this though, which isn’t a good sign in this genre. It’s very low budget, on the same level as the type you’d see in old video games. Some of the static bits are alright, but all the live stuff (weather, effects etc.) look pretty terrible. The most interesting character is Johnny Rose’s Norcutt, despite his under-developed motives.

Away from that though, it’s an OK film. The voice cast are acceptable, while the humour is probably pretty spot on for those it’s aimed for. I will say though, there is one scene which actually did make me chuckle; it involves Jessie J’s ‘Bang Bang’ song playing over it.

All in all a fairly poor film, mainly down to the questionable animation, but I reckon the intended age bracket will somewhat enjoy.

Could have been better

Only reason I rated it so high is because I’m just happy to have another Woody Woodpecker movie.

The first one (2017) was a joy to watch but this one being a “sequel” to that was an extreme let down. Didn’t follow the original story, didn’t have any of the original characters which I really wanted to see. Introduced wayy too many new animated characters and they can understand woody?!? No one could understand him in the 1st one (2017) but now they all just magically can?

Really disappointed in this movie, it had the potential to be amazing but had bad and lazy production/directing. Really wish this was a real sequel that kept the story line going from the first movie. This one (2024) would have made more sense as a prequel and a sorry one at that.

Just for serious fan

When I was little, I was captivated by popular cartoon series, including the adventures of this woodpecker. Therefore, when it was announced that there would be a live-action/animated slapstick comedy film featuring Woody Woodpecker, I eagerly anticipated its release, but..

This particular film fails to resonate with contemporary audiences, appealing neither to adults nor children. Its humor lacks depth, the acting appears unconvincing and at times exaggerated, and the story-line feels contrived, rendering it unsuitable for present-day viewers, in my opinion. It seems to cater more to existing fans rather than attracting new ones.

While it might have been entertaining in its time, the film falls short of contemporary standards. It could serve as a fallback option if you happen to have a surplus of free time and no other viewing alternatives, but it’s not really a recommended choice for a discerning audience seeking engaging and serious content.

Despite attempting to convey a moral message, the film does so in a shallow manner. It’s evident that there’s room for improvement in the quality of animation and storytelling. Hopefully, they can enhance the depth and sophistication of their future animated films, delivering more impactful and resonant messages to their audience.

Possibly worst movie of the year

This might go down as the worst movie of the year. I personally didn’t find a single joke funny and I thought that the characters were at best bland and uninteresting and at worst insanely annoying.

This movie is without any doubt made for kids aged 5-10 but in my opinion a movie shouldn’t get a free pass just because it’s made for kids. This is just mindless entertainment for kids with a very basic message.

I also thought the acting extremely poor and I don’t think there was a single good performance in it. This isn’t just the child actors I’m talking about it extends to the adults, most of the dialogue is very emotionless.

Overall this movie was terrible and I would only recommend it to people who find ironic enjoyment out of bad movies.

Worst movie ever

A tiring watch with zero elements of intrigue…!!!

GV Prakash Kumar, with all his typical range of expressions, fits the part. His physicality actually helps the movie, as he never really becomes a larger-than-life hero & does carry the whole movie on his shoulder… Mamitha Baiju, as the female lead, is mostly an on-looker who never really causes any trouble to the narrative…

The structure of this movie by Nikesh RS is extremely basic. Instead of fleshing out the story with a layered study of discrimination, Nikesh just throws a Kerala story-like imagination into this film. It is completely okay to have a fictional setting in movies. But when you are doing that in a story that talks about real places, a level of conviction is required… The movie actually simplifies the complex nature of the conflict into a mere hate campaign…

We all have seen a segment of the population, who shows hate towards a category of people based on their caste or language. Films addressing such political and sensitive topics are indeed a necessity, as art has that political layer to its credit. But when you monsterize everyone from a region in order to create a mass hero, the gross generalization is something that is extremely problematic…resulting in creation of unnecessary hatred…

There is no Malayali character with a positive role in the film.

The movie has a cliched format of storytelling and is melodramatic.

There are no lighter moments anywhere because it is a serious story.

Poor writing makes it predictable. Director Nikesh RS fails in the execution…

Overall Rebel keeps all the political fronts on the wrong side and focuses only on the political friction or the injustice done to the TSP.

They made a racist movie trying to make an anti-racist movie

For a movie that tries to talk about how education is the key to eradicate sentiments of racism and tribalism, the movie pathetically falls victim to that which it tries to preach against. It’s a movie that can’t seem to shut up about how so innocent and just Tamil people are, while at the same time portraying their Malayalam counter-parts as a group of vile, evil racists. You have to be a special kind of stupid to not see how you are exactly that which you’re trying so hard to criticize. It’s just an ugly movie with less to nothing redeeming about it. Excusing the blatant racism, all you find is inconsistent writing with no room for logic; cliches; tropes; bad acting and dull music. It’s not worth your time. Movies like this are best ignored.

Just skip

Some of the movies can be avoided just by looking at the main leads. If someone like Sara Ali khan, ananya etc are in a movie as main lead, it’s strict avoid. The makeup and style of Sara in this movie doesn’t suit the time period. It looks more fake. And her acting is just bad. Even a child actor has more expressions than Sara.

Coming to the story it’s again the usual story set during British rule. The story is slow and boring. The makers should do more research before doing such movies. Most of it looks like fiction. Need to fill some more of characters and just adding some random text here.

Uncomfortable Glimpse into Radicalization

The story itself is bold, intriguing, and offers an important glimpse into history. It’s a story that should be told and brought to light.

Unfortunately, the writing and way the story was told fell flat for me. Despite the close-ups, deep glimpses into the character’s eyes, and creation of atmosphere, there was only one scene that stands out to me. One were Usha hides under a burka when the police search for her and Kaushik shows her his shaking hands when she reappears. The rest of the movie felt like the same message and image on repeat: stand up for revolution and freedom. After a while, the same scene and message on repeat is just flogging a dead horse.

What I found frustrating was the message, despite coming from the right place, did not shed any new ideas or perspectives on the plight against colonialism. Instead, it amplified stereotypes. It was the stereotyping in the film and the characters that unsettled me the most. John Lyre, the British man hunting down the revolutionaries, is portrayed as ruthless, cold-hearted, and intense to the point that he feels more like a cartoon than a human man bred to view himself as superior (pure) and take pride in his country (points that could have been paralleled and contrasted with Usha’s purity and pride in country, but were entirely missed). Usha, on the other hand, is portrayed as self-righteous, ego-centric (her ideas being the purest above all others’), naive about the impact she had on relationships with family and friends, and ruthless in her intensity to revolutionize India.

The most unsetting point was the way the movie glossed over radicalization. The ability to influence and spread one’s beliefs (such as through a radio) comes with intense responsibility. Usha never questions once the possible myriad of outcomes that could happen… including igniting a rebellion that may fail/may lead to needless loss of lives and bloodshed. Especially since the film stated (but did not show) that she was a Gandhian.

Overall, I look forward to learning more about Usha and appreciate the movie from bringing her plight to light.

Unsung hero’s are the greatest of all the heroes…!!!

Based on a true story of Usha Mehta a young woman who starts a underground radio during 1942 of India’s freedom struggle called “CONGRESS RADIO” broadcasting the speeches of imprisoned freedom fighters & there by reigniting the “QUIT INDIA MOMENT” spreading resistance & unity across the country which later was snapped by Britishers….

Any periodic story of our unsung hero’s are a miracle when told on silverscreen with ongoing commercialisation or spy universe of movie which is only meant to shower money,So we need to cherish them & acknowledge them as we owe them coz of freedom which we enjoying today… Thanks to Kannan Iyer for his passion to narrate the plot as it’s “NO MAN’S LAND” in current Bollywood trend… Whether the flick survives or its disaster but it’s our duty not to discourage his noble thoughts…

Sara Ali Khan has definitely improvised a lot and her emotional counterpart does have a soul in it…thanks to Kannan Iyer for believing her ability… Emraan hashmi role could have a second thought of essaying a different person as he doesn’t fit into the role and while he spins the charakha itakes embarassing…

Technically it’s well sound making the major compliment but what fails is that at the end of the movie we don’t have a emotional impact making just a timepass…

Overall The film is a pure, clean and good-intentioned period drama…give it a try you won’t be disappointed…

Expected More

When I was start watching this movie I thought it would be hilarious or at the very least it will be severely funny. But I guess I set the bar too high, that is why I could not enjoy that much.

All in all it is an average movie. It is a romantic comedy movie. Though there was not much connection between comedy and romance part. It would have been better if in the story both comedy and romance developed simultaneously.

The last thing needs to be mentioned is the acting. None of the actor or actresses acting looks very convincing. If the could give the right expression in right time in a right way then the movie would have been a bit more enjoyable.

So if you have spare time to waste, then you can watch it; although it does not worth the time that you will spend watching it.

It’s very sexual for a teen comedy and there is nudity. I found it too predictable and boring at times, the acting wasn’t that good but at times it was okay, most of the time the actors and actresses, acting wasn’t very convincing and that was what put me off a little bit and I think that there was room for more character development as I thought It was lacking in the part, I liked that there was a little bit of lgbt

I found this movie funny and it made me smile a few times, I like the music that was used I feel like it went well with the scenes. I was happy because Max Carver was in it, and he was the Lifeguard called Joe. The last thing I watched with him in is teen wolf, I haven’t watch many of the movie he has been in but now I want to.

Teen Comedy

It’s pretty sexual for a teen comedy and there is nudity. Be warned or at least aware of that fact. But it’s still a comedy and it’s pretty neat, even if it never reaches heights of other great teen comedies (one of the most recent would be American Pie). It has a couple of bumps and hurdles on the road (no pun intended), like the acting not always being top level, but it manages.

So if you’re expectations are not too high, you will probably not be disappointed. The movie tries to keep it as real as possible, though has the morality aspect to it, which makes the story even more predictable to a point

Almost passed out from cringing

Looking at lots of films in the age of Covid, and came across this Aussie one. I’m not sure you could do much worse than this. The central relationships – mother and girlfriend – are a mishmash of unconvincing farce and silly or unexplained predicaments. So you end up not caring about the outcome. It’s like someone said, ‘ah this ol idea is so good, the film will fly’. Well it crashed right after the pleasing opening credits and enjoyable soundtrack, never to be rescued.Whoever gave it a 10 out of 10 here must have been part of the marketing effort. Do not be misled, only a power outage could improve this film.

Come along for the ride…and the lasagna

My hat must be taken off to Frank Lotito and the rest of the cast and crew of Big Mamma’s Boy. They have pulled off a fantastically funny and fresh Italo-Australian film that crowds of people will enjoy. Whilst I can somewhat understand why certain critics aren’t wrapped in the film, I do think they are expecting too much from what is aimed at being a light hearted romp, focusing on the lives of many young Australian men that too can call themselves Mamma’s Boys.

Lets take a look at the actors involved. Firstly we have the man himself, Frank Lotito. Aside from starring as Rocco he also produced and wrote the screenplay. Frank is a comedian I have followed for years, ever since his big break gigs opening for Joe Avati. Frank is sensational in this film.

Next we have Carmelina Di Guglielmo who plays Roccos Mamma. It takes a special kind of person to play the role of Mamma, and boy can she do it. Her on screen presence and ability to make you laugh and cry at once is her greatest attribute.

I will stick to Roccos family for now and go onto Nonno, played by Osvaldo Maione. Every Italian kid, be them 5, 15 or 55 will always remember their Nonno walking around in his mutande (underpants). Osvaldo is brilliant as Nonno, and he even teaches a valuable lesson we can all take on board.

We will finish off family (although some might find that term used loosely in this part) with Pia Miller’s character, Maria. I am sorry but I will stick to my guns and say that Rocco should have gone with the second cousin. Pia is absolutely stunning on screen.

Roccos love interest Katie (played by Holly Valance) is your typical, Australian power-woman, something a good little Mammas boy should steer clear of…but not Rocco. Holly is very believable in this role.

Two of my favourite characters would have to be Mr & Mrs Cotoletta (played by Costas Kilias and Maria Venuti). Your typical, across-the-road Italian couple who spend their days washing the pavement (during water restrictions) and their nights drinking coffee and eating lasagna. Maria is delightful as is Costas (not bad for a Greek playing an Italian) Finally we have Greek Australian comedian George Kapiniaris who plays Roccos boss, Theo. Theo is a real womanizer with a passion for Roccos Mammas food. George plays the role perfectly and his on screen chemistry with Frank is awesome to watch.

The story is very simple, some may say predictable, however I want to commend Frank on keeping the story true to what he intended it to be. A great film for the entire Famiglia to enjoy.

9/10 from me.

Uniquely unfunny attempt at comedy

This has to be one of the most uniquely and individually poorly acted, horribly scripted, total failures of an attempt at comedy. Trying way too hard to be a goof-ball comedy this movie sinks and sinks to the bottom from beginning to the end. Not one character has the ability to endear him/herself to the viewer.

Why I stuck with this to the finish is a mystery to me. Maybe I subconsciously thought ‘it will get better’ – but it doesn’t. The stereotyping of each character almost becomes juvenile and offensive very soon in the story. And as an aside – what’s with those weird outfits the females wore? Very strange clothing!

If you want to have a good cry of disappointment – watch this stupid movie!

A Holiday Sequel?

This movie just makes no sense and hardly follows the first movie.

~ The animation is just as bad or worse in this movie like it was in the first movie.

~ The new characters (mainly the pups) are annoying little brats that nobody wants to see.

~ Kate and Humphrey (Alpha and Omega) aren’t responsible parents and can’t do what needs to be done to make sure their children are safe.

~ The other characters have no development and are pointless to the plot.

~ The plot itself doesn’t even have anything to do with Christmas. It’s about saving their son from a ‘group of rogues’. That doesn’t say anything about how this has to do with Christmas. Plus, how do wolves even know what Christmas is?

~ This movie fails at being a Christmas movie. It doesn’t even tell us what holiday it is until the Third Act. Say what you will about the Star Wars Holiday Special. At least they said the name of the holiday at the beginning of the movie.

This movie is awful and even fans of the original movie wouldn’t like this. Everything good parts of the movie (there weren’t many) were thrown away and in doing that we got this movie. Alpha and Omega fans stick with the original and anyone else just stay away from this movie all together.

An unnecessary and really bad sequel.

When Alpha and Omega was released back in 2010, its reception wasn’t very positive. Both critics and movie-goers alike blasted the film, criticizing it’s story, animation, and just being an overall bad film. It managed to find some fans, but it’s still a film many people just simply forgot… or wanted to forget.

Admittedly, it’s a guilty pleasure of mine. Yeah, it’s bad, and it’s not something I’d recommend to anyone… but I can find some enjoyment out of it, and I don’t think it’s as bad as many claim (close, but not quite). With that said, in no way did I ever wish for it to receive a sequel. Honestly, it’s just not necessary, and again, not too many people even liked the first film. It’s fan base, if one even exists, is quite small, so who’s the targeted audience? Why even bother making a sequel, knowing it probably won’t sell?

Well, they made one anyway, and because I somewhat enjoy the first film, I decided to give it a shot.

…And what a mistake that turned out to be. Any charm the first film might have had is completely absent here, and there’s many reasons why. The story is predictable (even more so than the first), the characters (both old and new) are terrible and useless, the script is lousy, the jokes are lame, the animation is often very sloppy and unpolished (amateurish mistakes that would make any newbie and up-and-coming animators blush with embarrassment), among numerous other examples. For that matter, any and all wolf sound effects (Howling, growling, etc.) all sound like poor-quality stock sound effects, as if they found them off some free sound effects website. The amount of effort they put into this film is… practically non-existent.

The worst offender is how short the movie is. It’s not even a full- length film… no, it’s only 45 minutes. And considering how the finale goes down, there’s so much evidence for me to believe the film was cut short and left unfinished… as if they ran out of budget or lost the motivation to complete it (I’m leaning towards the latter).

Everything about this movie screams “Lack of effort”. It’s an abomination to viewers and fans of the original film. Even after renting this for $4 off of Amazon Instant Video, I still feel cheated and want my money back. Avoid this movie like the plague… trust me, you won’t regret it.

Not A Good Sequel To A Okay Movie

The first movie is a guilty pleasure of mine but sadly the sequel doesn’t even try.

The animation was worse than the first movie. I know Internet companies that try harder than that. Crest Animation Productions are the ones who brought us such ‘classics’ as Swan Princess Christmas, The Swan Princess: A Royal Family Tale and The Little Engine That Could. They haven’t one great movie under there belt. Sure they made the first Alpha And Omega movie but from a technical stand point it’s not very good. None of the characters are developed more and are boring. The new characters have pups but those kids aren’t fun to watch and just aren’t very likable. There’s no pretty howling soundtrack like in the first movie so that’s a disappointment. The music in here is very forgettable. The story hardly had anything to do with Christmas and had plot holes which made me start asking questions. Why did Princess suddenly change her mind at the end? Where is the huge army of rogues that they mentioned? Why don’t the parents send their pups home where it’s safer? Even if you’ve never seen the first movie you wouldn’t like this movie. I don’t care if it’s straight to DVD movie. I’ve seen straight to DVD animated movies that are brilliant. (Wonder Woman movie) So there are no excuses for anything. Just stick with the first movie (that is if you’re a fan) and ignore this.

The Rodriguez and the Beyond Storyline

City of Madrid, Madrid (center to Spain). The Rodríguez is a too-much-normal family composed by the father, Rodrigo, a former banker reconverted in store worker from a franchise of repairs named Van Vatio; the mother, Cristina, a Mexican woman who works as therapist and psychologist; the older daughter, Alejandra, who is dating with arrogant and paid of himself Bosco; the younger daughter, Gabriela, an outside and outlandish girl who a strange bird doll as pet; and finally the middle son, Nico, a super-intelligent boy who tries to hide it to the family. After a visit of Rodrigo’s aging mother Isabel in a senior living community, Isabel talks in secret with Nico, giving a package to open with he be 15 years old, but unable to await and implying his best friend Edu, Nico discovers an old VHS tape with a message from his dead grandfather about a box buried in the garden. Digging he finds the box and opens, finding the crank of the old refrigerator. Putting on its place, Nico unleashes the impossible when a man named Félix appears on the house and takes the family across of a dimensional portal to another world named Maktub. There, Sra. Presidenta explains the family that Rodrigo’s father was really a Maktub’s agent who in 1951 he was on mission to catch criminals that flee Earth, but he remained on planet Earth after he fell in love with Isabel, but forcing Maktub to be stuck in the 1951’s look after he left a secret portal open to back Maktub if it was necessary. While Félix and the scientists as Pilar tries to find the portal to close, Félix and the family returns to planet Earth with a bracelets that change of color according people suspects about Rodriguez’s identity (white, green and blue), under threat that if bracelets turns red, all them will be deported Maktub immediately. However, troubles increase progressively: the open portal causes that Alejandra turns in a girl with super-strength at the same time she suspects that Bosco is unfaithful her with their classmate Bea, and that a young neighbor named Jacobo feels attracted to her; Gabriela learns to be invisible, causing all kind of mess around her; Isabel floats as a balloon, and Rodrigo turns on his head and butt as a light bulb when he is angry. For more complications, Cristina’s new client results to be Minister of Finances Pedro Solas, with a crisis of anxiety; Edu and Nico miss suddenly, forcing Cristina to talk with Ricardo and Natalia, the repulsive and conceited upper-class Edu’s parents, to leave Edu in her home to pass the night together with Nico hoping they come back; Rodrigo’s bosses appear by Van Vatio to supervise the business; and Félix is by error sent to Maktub after he’s shot with a special gun, causing that a replace named J.J. cross the portal to help the family, not knowing that in true J.J. is a double-agent who works for Rugen Zelig, a dangerous criminal looking for revenge of Agente Rodríguez and his family.—Chockys

A family Science-fiction comedy with humor , sympathy and supernatural events

This is a sympathetic but overlong film with hilarious scenes , fantasy and wonderful happenings . Crazy family adventure comedy is set in City of Madrid, capital to Spain. The Rodríguez is a special family composed by the father, Rodrigo (Edu Soto) , a former banker reconverted in hardware store manager from a Dutch franchise of repairs named Van Vatio ; the mother, Cristina (Mariana Treviño) , a Mexican woman who works as therapist and psychologist who has as a client the Minister of finances (Enrique Villén) ; the older daughter, Alejandra (Sara Jiménez), who is dating with arrogant and paid of himself Bosco; the younger daughter, Gabriela, an outside and offbeat girl who a rare bird doll as a pet; and finally the middle son, Nico, a clever but mischievous boy who often uses to make antics , jokes and frolics along with his best friend Edu . After a visit of Rodrigo’s aging mother Isabel (Geraldine Chaplin) who has Alzheimer illness and living in an elderly residence , Isabel talks in secret with Nico, giving a package to open with he be 15 years old , but unable to await Nico discovers an old VHS tape with a message from his dead grandfather (Placido Domingo) about a box buried in the garden . Digging he encounters the box and opens , finding the crank of the old fridge . As the son of the family , Nico , unleashes an incredible power , as he discovers that his late grandfather hid many secrets and the family has a connection by means of a cosmic door with another world, Maktub, but that connection endangers his family and even the very existence of both planets . Putting on its place the impossible when a man named Félix appears on the house and takes the family across of a dimensional portal.

Los Rodríguez y el Más Allá is a family-style film that takes us to a story with science fiction overtones in which a peculiar family becomes involved in a time portal and their members holding supernatural powers . The young children are one of the great successful protagonists of the film . Not only do they exude naturalness , mirth , and enormous chemistry , but they also take the film on their shoulders and carry it to the end with more pleasantness than other experienced actors . Our starring family being accompanied by an attractive plethora of ordinary secondaries such as : Macarena Gómez , Geraldine Chaplin , Enrique Villén, Rossy de Palma , Tomás Pozzi, opera singer Placido Domingo , Eduardo Gómez and Santiago Segura in his regular role as the villain but likeable enemy . The production design , with that recreation of the fifties on the neighboring planet , is excellent , including state-of-art special effects and there are characters like Rossy de Palma, who will win the applause from all over the world and get loud laughter , but they don’t make up for the rest of a trip which is pretty long , with an excessively flat narrative and with a really bland path , including silly incidents for the outlandish characters , but at least being moderately interesting for the audience .

The motion picture was well directed by the philantropic filmmaker Paco Arango who has an interesting career and as usual in his cinema, part of the proceeds (244.000EUR) went to help children with cancer through the Aladina Foundation. In 1999 he started his own television production company. He created and wrote several shows, one of which Ala Dina became one of Spain’s top-rated shows, and ran for three seasons. In 2011, he wrote and directed his first movie: “Maktub”. The film was well received in Spain and garnered three nominations at the Spanish Academy (Goya) Awards. The movie’s proceeds went to the construction of the “Maktub Center”, the number one paediatric bone marrow transplant wing in Spain. His second film, “The Healer” (2017) , was the first film in the world to donate 100% of its proceeds to children with cancer or in vulnerable situations all over the world.. It features a cast of well-known actors and it’s dedicated to Paul Newman. It was shown in 16 countries, was a major hit in Spain, México, Central America, and Colombia with more than 2,2 million viewers. Paco combines his passion for storytelling with a deep commitment to helping seriously ill children. “Fundación Aladina uses color and smiles to brighten hospital stays for each and every child, as well as their families. It fills me with joy to affirm that Aladina helps kids fight childhood cancer, so that it is never able to take away a child’s smile. Paco Arango’s new movie Los Rodríguez y el más allá (2019) has , as always in his career, the incentive of being advertised as a film whose part of the proceeds will go directly to the Aladina Foundation, to help children with cancer. As the film entertains us in spite of some embarrissing messes and makes us laugh from time to time, but fails on some levels . Rating : 6.5/10 . Well worth seeing .

Fun for kids but very slow and long

It could be more funny but is too slow… very long movie with bad and overdone acting, well, it is mexican.

I just watch to hear spanish talking.

The story is interesting, about a family whose grandfather was a hero from another planet and there are space tunnels to travel between planets.

But the family powers are just useless… maybe the telepatic dog would be the best of themall.

If you have afternoon time and enough pop corn, this movie may be for you.

Not certain comedies, but it’s the top of light and naive humor that I like…

A couple and their children must learn how to control their newfound superpowers. The father turns on as a light bulb, the older daughter has super-strength, the younger daughter is capable of being invisible, the grandmother floats and the son is super-intelligent. Definitely this family is from another world.

I really loved these superheroes, super unlikely, this Spanish comedy is extremely fun, the characters are very captivating, the photography is very colorful, vibrant colors, in harmony with the very fun characters, even the supporting actors and agile, simple and fun scripts… Not certain comedies, but it’s the top of light and naive humor that I like…
