The usual suspects attempt to rehabilitate a creepy klepto foreign agent via a sub-Fox “News” hagiography, rammed full of predictable FSB propaganda tropes.

Poor little Flynn, gofer to the stars, just carrying out his boss’s orders, then getting prosecuted for a bunch of criminal activities, up to and including treason. So very tragic; getting caught, that is. Waaah, waaah, waaaah!

Consequences are what happen when you share a corrupt grift-centric wingnut ideology with the likes of Cucker Tarlson, Steve Gammonface, Perjury Taylor Greede, and the bloviating senile delinquent-in-chief.. Transparently disingenous, wreathed in trite propagandst sophistry, and preaching to the white supremacist choir.

1/10 for the chutzpah.

An important movie everyone should see

General Mike Flynn is a true American patriot and the story about what he went through, the political persecution, gives great insight into what can actually happen to leadership in our country today. Not even honorably serving your country can protect you. Highly recommend watching this movie with an open mind.

One of the other reviews of this movie here is a disingenuous take by someone attacking General Mike Flynn and not actually talking about the movies. The review titled: “A documentary that praises treason” is written by a radical on the left that didn’t even watch the movie. That’s the type of person that General Mike Flynn was up against, unhinged radicals, communists, on the left that have nothing but hatred in their hearts.

Come on, this is ridiculous

Some real propaganda right here. This is seriously one of the most asinine attempts to whitewash the actions of a traitor that was once a patriot.

The fact that this is being made should give you pause, alone.

I guess they will be making some new HERO movies with traitors at the helm, pretending like they are interested in actually saving a nation from themselves.

Spoiler alert: they don’t care about you, or the nation. They care only about themselves and keeping their status as the crumbs of society that crave power but will never, ever actually see it.

Michael Flynn is now a traitor, after turning his back on the nation that allowed him to be.

A surreal trip

I guess since I am the first person to put a review up for this movie, I shouldn’t dump all over it. I honestly do not know what to think of this film.

This is not the type of movie most people like, but that does not mean it can not be good.

On a whole, it came off much like a trip, drug or psychosis based, very unstable and peculiar; the fourth wall was broken. It is at times a comedy, a tragedy, a documentary; the focus shifts numerous times as does the cinematic style and tone and story.

It was narrated in parts and in some of the most confusing sequences, you are left to your own mind. I spend a lot of time analyzing things. This movie still doesn’t make total sense to me and I’m not sure if it is because I am missing something or reading too far into it. I think it might be clearer in a few days, but I wanted to leave a positive review now to perhaps convince a few people to check the movie out if they get a chance.

The film starts with an idea: The 100th Monkey phenomenon, which states that after a certain number of people learn or partake of an idea, a critical mass is reached and that idea is pushed out into all of that species, instantly, and becomes universal. Everyone knows that thing once a certain number of people know it.

Warren (Dan Fogler), unemployed artist, pot head, has crazy dreams. That is the only remarkable thing about him until a day comes when a crazy homeless man confronts him on the street. From that day on, Warren descends into himself, insanity and a confusion of mind and body, spurned on by drugs along with Doomsday and conspiracy theories.

Searching for a purpose, he starts interviewing people on topics of the 2012 apocalypse, nwo, cia, illuminati, lizard people and every possible conspiracy theory–BUT, that drive and initial plan are lost and soon Warren loses control of himself, falling deeper into the trip and chaos of his mind.

What is real? What is actually happening? Are we seeing what Warren sees or is it the actual truth? Did he lose himself because he was touched by some random weirdo; was he always teetering on the line of sanity.

“Don Peyote” was written and directed by Dan Fogler. If I had more time this week I would find a copy of his first movie “Hysterical Psycho” just to get a sense of what his style is like.

One thing is for sure, this movie is important to him and whenever a person cares about something, us humans owe it them to give it a chance and show it due respect.

That said, I honestly don’t know how to feel about the film.

1. IMDb’s actor rating system is screwed up. Looking at the page of ‘Don Peyote’ you think the main actors are Anne Hathaway and Jay Baruchel. They make appearances, but they are not the stars.

2. This is Dan Fogler’s movie and since I find him hilarious, I did not feel slighted checking this movie out.

I had a couple of feelings and theories regarding the story, but I am not sure whether they should be said; or if they constitute spoilers.

There are people out there, we all know them. The one guy who thinks the world is going to be over by the years end. The girl who thinks mercury in fish is poisoning everyone; the couple who hordes food; the pot-head friend who always talks about the illuminati.

We live in a world where people have little purpose outside of themselves and there are so many shaded ‘threats’, dangers lurking behind buildings and in the empty places of cut down woods.

As people, do we feel the need to speak of these things, to convince people of what we believe, make sure enough know to trigger the ‘100th Monkey Phenomenon’ and help this world?

“Don Peyote” was a descent, the visualization of a man going crazy, seen from his perspective. It was a crazy movie. It was supposed to be crazy and I liked it. But I like surreal and weird and new stuff. I have never seen a movie quite like Don Peyote.

If you decide to see this movie…see it. Actually watch it, rather than compare it to other movies you like the entire duration.

That was weird!

I feel like I was not in the right state of mind to really enjoy this movie. Then again, the three kids in the back of the theater where in the right state of mind, I could smell if from the front row, but even they left before the movie was over.

The movie was real psychedelic in that 1960’s sort of way, but rather than an acid trip the filmmakers get high on the chronic. A different experience that I feel makes the movie suffer.

High on weed, the movie is more strange than funny. Too strange to really justify me sitting in that theater for 90mins. The jokes I more just got than found funny.

The movie’s value is increased by what I’m guessing is the filmmakers many friends making cameos. Topher Grace,and especially, Josh Duhamel who plays a wondering hobo were fantastic. Other stars made cameos but not as impressive.

I went in wanting to enjoy this and I wish I did but I can’t.

Turgid mess

One thing you can say about “Don Peyote” is that it’s interesting. The story is fairly dark, there are a lot of “tripped out” sequences — unfortunately, the directing doesn’t rise to the challenge, so you don’t really feel immersed in the weirdness but rather like an unwelcome and unwilling spectator of it. The scenes, for example, where he’s taken to an underground lair of homeless people or when he finds his fiancé having a sex party at their apartment, are supposed to feel like Fellini but they feel more like Andy Warhol on his worst day (and that is something terrible to behold). It’s as if the director invited a bunch of his friends, told them to bring the sexiest date they possibly could and to wear an odd costume, and just shot the results.

Weirdly, Anne Hathaway shows up halfway through this film in which almost every other actor is obviously non-union. Supposedly Topher Grace is in it too but I didn’t spot him; perhaps he wore sunglasses or some fake hair to make his appearance here less embarrassing and noticeable. And yeah, when Topher Grace is embarrassed to be in your movie, you have a problem.

I did make it to the end of the movie, because I wanted to see if anything interesting would happen: it doesn’t.

If you think about it, the plot is the same as the Hangover: guy’s about to be married, goes on a wild drug experience wit his friends. But this guy Dan Fogler — who’s billed 7th despite the fact that his mug is in a close-up in nearly every shot of the entire film — actually makes Zach whatshisname or Jack Black or any of those people look like Peter Sellers. He’s not a horrible actor, but he can’t sustain an entire film, and he’s not very funny.

Leave this one alone if you can. Unless one of your friends is in the movie, then it might be worth watching if you can spot them in the middle of this madness.

Ryan Nicholson’s follow up to his cult hit Gutterballs concerns an 18 year old who was hideously scarred after being pulled from the vagina of his prostitute mother by her sadistic pimp. Leroy(Ronald Patrick Thompson)leaves his pregnant whore(played in an unflattering role by Debbie Rochon) lying on a bed in a pool of her own blood and dumps her offspring in a garbage can. Hanger(Nathan Dashwood), as he is affectionately labeled, is taken under the wing of his dead mother’s former john(Dan Ellis)and given a job in a scrapyard where he forms a friendly bond with a chinaman, Russell(Wade Gibb). A wheezing freak named Phil(Alastair Gamble)also works at the scrapyard and he has hostile homosexual urges that will soon be met when he drugs Hanger and Russell, sodomizing them. There is also the daughter of the scrapyard owner, Nicole(the unbelievably hot Candice Lewald)who gets all hot and bothered when alone in his office. Meanwhile, we learn that the john who has removed Hanger from his squalidly existence is indeed his pops and vows to get even with Leroy for killing Rose(Rochon). Well, the humor is as crude as it gets and the movie puts major emphasis on unpleasant sexual content that may provide more discomfort than laughs, unless your tastes are of the lowest quality possible. There’s, for instance, a scene where Phil “rods” the puss-oozing orifice in Hanger’s hip shortly after anally raping Russell. Russell has an unsavory fetish for Nicole’s tampons. Most of the characters are buried under heavy prosthetic make-up to look as ghastly and dysfunctional as possibly with personalities to match. Leroy, in particular, is a loathsome cretin who makes everyone’s life miserable. Actually, no one in the film is of much worth, because even Hanger, an obvious victim of extraordinarily unfortunate circumstances, destroys a Jehovah’s witness by tearing off her breasts and eating out her insides with his ferocious, badly mangled teeth. The photography and audio of the movie are of an inferior quality making Hanger look very reminiscent to a Henenlotter vehicle, except less funny and more obnoxious. Many of the cast members from Gutterballs return in Hanger, barely recognizable under their sickening disguises. Lots of fake penis and the fetus removal which produces the horrifying result of Hanger is shown in grisly, elaborate detail. Only for audiences whose demands for trash know no bounds.

Needs penetration.

A clothes-hanger abortion survivor? Whoa! Who’s turned into a blood-thirsty freak? Whoa mama! Graphic nudity? Mama mia! It’s directed by Ryan Nicholson? Oh…hmmm…I guess I’ll check it out.

I’ve gotta admit, even though this flick seems to have all the ingredients to sound like a pretty sweet and f’ed up flick, it’s almost a chore to watch. Scratch that. It is a chore to watch. My biggest issue was how the story played out. The pacing was horrendous. Mix that with a cast of entirely unlikeable characters and bingo, a chore. And why are the characters unlikeable? Well, you can blame that on the amateur acting, and subpar writing. Just like Ryan’s past movies he seems to not have a problem with giving his actors full reign of their characters. And when you have actors who aren’t so hot at acting, it more than likely ends up being like this.

A thought that popped in my head a few times while watching this was how close it came to becoming a porno. And actually how it even felt like a porn flick at times. Ryan, you add some penetration to these films, and you’ll instantly become the best horror porn director ever. Or at least the best working at the moment. Maybe think about it, eh?

There aren’t many film-makers out there that are as carefree and in love with the horror genre as Mr. Nicholson, and that is the sole reason I keep seeing his movies. I hope instead of sticking to human horror he tackles something a bit more ‘traditional’, but leaving his trademark sickness to it. A creature feature or a big foot movie, but with the works.

Hanger was a gross, sleazy, dirty flick that should have been a crazy fun time, but ended up being boring, unlikeable, and felt like it tried much too hard to be funny and shocking. The handful of disgusting scenes and graphic nudity can only go so far.

You got to be kidding me

I guess I qualify to fit the target group of this movie, after all I have seen previous movies by Nicholson and “Gutterballs” was real fun. Sure, all his movies have a trashy flair and the sexual shocking was there every time… but “Hanger” is a different thing. You can describe this movie like a cross between “Street Trash” and some stupid 70ies Revenge Movie. Basically this could guarantee some interesting 90 minutes for fans of Movies like Pulp Fiction/Boondock Saints and underground horror. But what Nicholson delivers here qualifies for the Troma Catalog in one of the lowest drawers.

The movie is set in the dirty red light district and revolves around a prostitute who gets a back alley abortion with a clothes-hanger by her pimp (is that guy supposed to be black or what… since the Chinese guy is barely Chinese I guess tough guy Leroy is a non-black black guy??). So you get were the title comes from which is also the name of the aborted monstrosity walking the street with a deformed face, a stoma, baby-talk and toy rabbits. Now Mr. Hanger meets his father (like most characters with serious prosthetic work on his face and especially nose) and they plot some rough revenge. Funny thing is that this “plot” always tends to be dropped on the sidelines for some lame masturbation or gay sex jokes as well as ridiculous soft-core sequences of some meaningless chick (I don’t get her deeper idea for the plot) working her snatch in her office.

All this leads up to one of the most ridiculous shoot outs in movie history (let me guess…. Mr Nicholson liked Boondock Saints very much but really took a deep dive here)that like everything in the movie is thrown in a pot and blended to a tasteless mush. Basically all you get is tasteless jokes about deformed retards (all those back alley hicks reminded me a lot of “Street Trash” yet “Hangers” stretches it much further), you get some guy collecting tampons and making tea out of it, a gay retard using hangers stoma for a fun ride, fart jokes, prosthetic dicks with cartoon “boing” samples, some killed prostitutes and a torture sequence with a blowtorch (Hmm, reminds me of something else) which is like many of the not so many gory moments in this movie plain ridiculous. The way the scenes are bound together and especially the dialog come across like written by a retarded horny 16year old writing a script with his dick in his hand.

Come on Mr. Nicholson… there is a boundary to stupidity on a level that the viewer feels ashamed for the director and you crossed it. The ending of your movie deserves to enter the halls of trash to serve as a warning of how it should never be done.

So bad, it’s good.

Well, at first, I struggled to stay engaged due to the seemingly subpar acting and script. However, I persevered and was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the film.

Adapting Lovecraft’s stories is no easy feat, especially on a limited budget. Despite its challenges, the film managed to deliver some impressive special effects. The ending felt authentically Lovecraftian, adding a satisfying touch to the narrative.

As a fan of Lovecraft’s work, I appreciate the efforts put into trying to visually capture his cosmic horrors. Kudos to the filmmakers for their ambitious undertaking.

7/10.

Remake

The film is actually a remake of the famous ’80s “From Beyond,” a former videotape hit. Of course with a much reduced budget, but instead a strange humor, and a few sequences changed here and there. It’s not a badly made movie, if you compare it to other bigger or lower budget movies, for fans of the genre it’s worth watching. And for those who haven’t seen the original “From Beyond” yet, take the time to watch it. (“Something is coming”).

The ending is predictable and leaves the impression of a hopeless situation for the “Good Samaritans”, those who try to help. The funny thing is the leftovers sequence. Greatness, I have brought you gifts. What gifts? Leftovers?

… comes one of the worst films you are likely to see in your lifetime, with (amazingly) a clever idea to the script that is totally lost in translation.

For the benefit of IMDb members not aware of the dynamic that supports Canadian knockoffs like this: these films exist because and only because of a massive tax subsidy at multiple levels of government in Canada, aided and abetted by a weaker dollar (relative to the US buck) which calls out to US producers in search of higher profits like a Siren Song to Ulysses.

The results can be excellent (Eureka) but are mostly horrible. When a film franchise dies in the US, a Canuck producer will buy the rights to a final sequel, a sequel designed to be “in profit” before the cameras even roll.

That said, this is an Indedependence Day knockoff done so poorly that it includes lines of dialog (and actors and special effects) that will make you cringe. This is an ADULT film where alien invaders have wiped out all major cities on earth but somehow the earth is SAVED by a bunch of teenage computer hackers in a BARN.

What more can I say??? The best performance — the only credible performance — is by Merriman. The entire 2 hr film has a total cast of about 7 people in all and the other 6 are forgettable.

Is it possible to do a two hour film more cheaply?

Clever those Canadians

Nothing special but still better than most SyFy original movies

Independence Daysaster did have a silly but also intriguing concept and title going for it, so it was definitely worth considering a viewing. As a movie, it is hardly a masterpiece of film-making- far from it- but it doesn’t try to be and there is much worse around. For a SyFy original movie, it is neither among the best or worst, there are too many flaws to recommend but it is somewhat tolerable. The acting mostly is reasonably good here, almost everyone seems to be having some sort of fun acting in a way that doesn’t try too hard or suggestive of going through the motions. The scenery is nice, simple but not in-someone’s-basement sort of quality, the shot of earth from outer space view and what there is of the action is fun and edge-of-your-seat quality. The music was a mixed bag, sometimes rousing, at other times too much of a dirge and the sort of sounds and rhythms that you’ve heard more than once. While the acting is not bad, Tom Everett Scott was unconvincing as the president, he lacked cragginess and proper authority and seemed bewildered too. Like most SyFy originals, Independence Daysaster is badly hindered by its budget. The special effects look really cheap and are papier-mâché-like in quality, while it was clear from the photography and editing that Independence Daysaster was made in a rush and with not much love. The script isn’t too complicated but at the same time comes as too simplistic and never strongly develops the characters, the inspirational speech was really clichéd and not one of those speeches that you want to take inspiration from, Scott’s lack of conviction in delivery didn’t help either. The story is a case of too much talk and being behind technology and not enough action, there are entertaining moments but not enough and there are too many dull stretches. The predictability levels are also high, and the suspense and genuine-care-for-situation levels low. The characters are not annoying as such and serve a point to the story, but they are never anywhere developed enough to make the audience connect with them. The aliens are under-utilised, not much of a threat judging from how people react to them and they are not in any way relateable. And then there’s the science, not as infuriating as other SyFy original movies but far too silly to be believable. All in all, nothing special and not particularly a good movie but it’s never really unbearably bad either. 4/10 Bethany Cox

Tedious made-for-TV sci-fi actioner

Decent special effects and acting can’t save the dopey tediousness of this made-for-TV sci-fi actioner that’s ultimately done in by a clumsy plot and the worst title ever given a film, ever, ever.

Despite the obvious comparison to the big-budget “Independence Day” of more than a decade prior, the only similarity between that blockbuster and this DTV nonsense is the alien-invasion story and the ridiculously convenient and inane deus ex machina plot devices that let our heroes save the day.

Otherwise, this one is about aliens who decide to terraform the earth, using giant, robotic phalluses that burst out of the ground, and flying, spherical drones that protect a mother ship that emerges – suddenly! – from behind the moon.

That’s all we get.

A ragtag group of nerds, teenagers and the president of the United States (!), team up to save the world. And it’s a good thing they do, because this is one of those movies in which the only people who exist in the world are those with speaking parts. It’s like the filmmakers spend so much money on special effects, they can’t afford to pay an extra or two to stand in the background to at least make the town that’s getting destroyed by alien robot drones look somewhat populated.

Tom Everett Scott from “That Thing You Do,” the only player of note in this drivel, has matured into a handsome and confident actor who needs to fire his agent, and hire one who can talk him out of idiotic films like this one, “Santa Paws 2” and “Mars Needs Moms.” Seriously, dude’s got some chops. There’s gotta be a “Law & Order” or “CSI” franchise for this guy somewhere.

Most of the other actors in this movie, surprisingly, give it all they’ve got. I mean, once their agent sent them a script that said “Independence Daysaster” on the cover, they should have been expected to phone it in. But these little nobodies act their little nobody hearts out, and it’s so charming.

Appalling

Why on earth try to make a movie about WW2 on a budget of $10.99 ? I mean kudos for a having the cojones to actually atempt it, but surely even just the pre-production stage should have warned them this was going to be a lemon.

Terrible acting, probably the most wooden acting I have ever seen in a film.

“Action scenes” that aren’t.

Boring scenes of the family back home gathered around the kitchen table (all on same side to save having to move the camera) reading out letters from their son in Italy.

The flaws and mistakes in this film are just too long to list. Avoid at all costs and watch Masters of the Air instead.

Rubbish Movie – High School project

The first few minutes are a turn of…At just 1.30 minutes in the movie, there is a close up of a soldier holding a rifle which is not even a replica of a WW2 weapon, and looks like it was made as a high school wood shop project that got a C- as test score.

Costume designer needs a rocket up the you know where. Military uniforms have no authenticity. At the 10 minute mak, in a combat training exercise, the soldiers are all wearing different uniforms, if they could actually be called uniforms. Cover-alls of different designs/style?? At 13:30, why the heck is a soldier in uniform from Wyming wearing a German Iron Cross (and a poor replica at that). Notably, the soldier is wearing the “Devils Brigade” insignia, being the special combined US/Canada commando force. These insignia were not granted until after graduation, not during training.

Notably, the 1st Special Service Force as they were officially known, trained near Helena, Montana. The filming location of this movie is clearly not in Montana.

When we see the soldiers doing knife combat training, the knife held by the trainer is clearly NOT the V-42 as issued to them. (google it)

We see the soldiers drinking from beer bottles that are clearly not 1940’s, but more recent.

The movie portrays what would have been the assault on Monte la Difensa. The scene in the movie does not even remotely match the landscape. And the combat scene does nor even remotely resemble the actual history. Movie shows failure of the soldiers and early detection, while in reality , was a complete surprise attack by the allied forces.

In that battle, the M1928A1 Thompson was the most widely used weapon, but this movie does not show a single one. Mostly Garands and M1s shown in the movie.. During the assault on Monte la Difensa, the movie shows an assembly of captured alleged German weapons, but what is shown are firearms post WW2 from different countries.

The movie also shows sporadic battles with rest time, but in reality, it was full on without respite.

Also, in the movie during the battle at Mt Sammucro,the movie says it was December 23, and soldiers say they do not want to die on christmas day, but the battle was well before christmas being between 8-17 December 1943. We also see soldiers fighting in heavy snow in a wooded forest…. but the real battle was on a steep rocky mountain devoid of vegetation and there was no snow. And the big one, The Devils Brigade did not fight in that battle. It was the 5th Army Division.

Overall… the movie has no authenticity, no historical accuracy, no accuracy to detail, poor acting, poor camera work, and really has no story line at all. The scenes jump all over the place. There is no flow.

Do not even bother watching this dribble.

Let’s rent a house and make a movie. Errrr….lets not.

Low budget attempt at a horror/ slasher drama.

Firstly, I am not going too hard on a movie that clearly has a small budget and made independently. That being said, this is poor by any standard.

The direction, the editing, the sound design, the acting, the script, the plot and cinematography is all poor. I can only imagine what someone like Sam Raimi would have done with something like this.

This is Holly Kenney’s first stab at doing a screenplay and it shows. It doesn’t help that she has decided to play the lead character herself.

There are strange scenes all over the place. The dog, who is the best actor in the film, disappears and reappears for little or no reason.

Non-formulaic Creep Fest!

I totally enjoyed this thriller with its non-formulaic storyline and production qualities. Its originality is bolstered by plot twists and creep-a-licious characters as well as, old fashioned horror.

And God bless whoever the genius was that decided NOT to underscore the entire movie with music telegraphing the viewer how to feel next. The lack of dramatic music actually makes this film seem so real, I occasionally forgot to suspend my disbelief — just in time to be scared all over again.

I didn’t really recognize any of the actors (and I’m a pretty big movie buff) but that just added to the realism for me. This whole story could have happened to anyone. Well done!

Beautiful and chilling indie with a wealth of brand new talent

This beautiful indie movie punches above its weight class, with a cast of unknown actors delivering powerful performances. The themes of paranoia and isolation dance nicely with modern conversations about gaslighting and victim blaming.

I say the actors are unknown, but that won’t be the case for long; Holly Kenney is a dramatic and powerful tour de force, walking the line of a woman on the edge of hysteria or revelation. Brendin Brown shows impressive, jaw dropping range that ramps up the intensity to a fever pitch. TA Spencer’s performance is so good, you can’t look away- simultaneously charged with tension and energy, and grounded with measured restraint. Devon Stewart is wildly charismatic and Radek Antczak’s nuanced performance complements and balances the group dynamic. Paris Nicole shines as Kenney’s effervescent, well meaning best friend. Even Koda the dog is a star!

The aesthetics of this movie are stunning. Director Adam Newacheck and Cinematographer Travis Prow crafted a film that captures the natural beauty of the woods, and the unsettling, out of place/time/other worldliness of a stranger’s cabin.

The devotion and craftsmanship poured into this movie are evident and delivers on a much higher level than other first time indies. Mark this one, so you can say you saw them all right before they became household names.

(Also…I want that picky picky picky apron)

Great Poster design, plotless movie

Kudos to the graphic artists that created the poster design for glamour girls.

Now to the movie… Glamour girls is meant to be a remake of the 1994 classic but it falls short in every ramification.

The acting is so over the top that they make William shatner look normal.

No character arc What seems to be a plotpoint fails woefully in hitting its mark

I have no idea what the film is trying to show or portray, maybe that Nigerians too have flashy things.

So, if yiou wanna watch because of the nostalgia of the 94 classic then go ahead, if not, its better to spend your time doing more productive things.like washing the beach or sweeping the forest.

Nollywood for you and her

You have to like the movies – the genre I reckon. I guess it can be called that. Whatever it is you call it, you have to dig it. There is a lot of cliches flying around, there is romantic notes, there are some action elements to it, but there is also a really cool soundtrack. Something I personally really liked.

Not to be revered for any acting achievements or story innovations, this can be fun, if you suspend your disbelief. I try not to watch too many of those – but this felt a bit better than some of the others I have seen in the past. That being said, still not convinced to become a full fledged fan.

Fire? Not even smoke.

A movie filmed in 1990, with a limited 1993 release, and a video finally released in 2000. Tell you anything?

It’s a typically cheapozoid Roger Corman flick about the disappearing rainforest. The film is only 78 minutes long, and about half of it is a digression that takes place in an Indian village.

Here’s the general idea. A famous indigenous environmentalist is killed. Although it is obvious that the money interests wanted him out of the way, the murder was performed with an arrow to feign an Indian attack, so the local police somehow decide to arrest a taciturn Indian who “hangs himself” in his cell after signing a full confession. There’s a new plot twist, eh?

When the Indian’s fellow tribesmen come for his body, a local North American environmentalist (Sandra Bullock) and a magazine reporter (Craig Sheffer) try to talk to them. They are unresponsive so, on the spur of the moment, the Americans follow the Indians up the river to their reservation.

Pause. Let’s think about that. Sheffer and Bullock see the Indians paddling upstream, so they commandeer a canoe and follow. They don’t know the terrain, they don’t know how far it is to the destination, they have no supplies, they don’t even have insect repellent, and they’re in a stolen canoe paddling through the unfamiliar jungle, surrounded by crocs, snakes, bad guys, corrupt legal authorities, and stone age tribesmen.

Sheffer is shot from the underbrush, their canoe overturns, and they just decide to saunter through the rainforest in a random direction, even though night is approaching, they are soaking wet, and Sheffer has a gunshot wound. Well, as luck would have it, they are captured by indigenous people – the very ones they were seeking – and after some negotiations the tribe finally agrees to advance the plot somewhat:

1. They possess secret herbs that cure the wound

2. They perform a scientific autopsy on the guy who “hanged himself”, thus proving he was dead before the hanging.

3. They possess more secret herbs that make Sandra Bullock want to make nice-nice for hours with the reporter (whom she had previously detested).

Well, now that the ice is broken, the lovebirds are constantly stealing a kiss on the corner of dirt roads, or in sleazy taverns filled with environmental terrorists and would-be competitors in the Anthony Quinn lookalike contest, and all of this romance is pursued with the same nonchalance you’d have with your best girly on the streets of London.

This movie might take the award for the most abrupt ending ever. Bullock and Sheffer are pursued by about a zillion heavily armed bad guys, including all possible legal authorities. They are trapped on a dock, machine guns to the front of them, water to the rear, with only about a minute left in the film.

A minute to resolve such a predicament?? Well, I’m not going to tell you how it ended.

The production values are execrable. The photographic quality is about equal to your dad’s home movies, and the sound track is both inappropriate and cheesy. In other words, the director defied the odds and managed to make a bad script into an even worse movie.

I guess you know by now that Sandra did a dimly lit nude scene, and this is a rarity in her career, but she has said that she had her essentials taped down for this scene, so I don’t know exactly what we are looking at. Maybe some Pebbles and Bam-Bam band-aids.

Incidentally, it seems there are still several minutes missing from the DVD cut. According to other comments, the original unrated cut was 85 minutes, but the unrated DVD release is 78. I suspect, however, that the clamor to restore the director’s vision will be somewhat quieter than the one concerning “A Touch of Evil”.

Uuugh! Wretched!

I guess everyone has to start somewhere. This 1993, direct to video film harkens back to the beginning of Sandra Bullock’s film career when she was probably thrilled to get a B movie script. Actually, to call this a B movie would be the kindest of prevarications. It was nowhere near that good. A mediocre plot was marred by dreadful directing, wretched cinematography and awful acting.

The film starts out like a recruiting film for the protest arm of the Sierra Club, with people locked in human chains to keep loggers from cutting down the rainforest. The leader is assassinated and then our heroine (Sandra Bullock), teams up with a whacked out photo journalist (Craig Sheffer) to find the killer and expose corruption. At this point it tries to convert to an action adventure thriller in the jungles of the Amazon.

It fails.

There are so many things to criticize in this film, I hardly know where to begin. Let’s try cinematography. The color quality was awful, scenes were constantly out of focus and the lighting was poor. We had overexposures, and underexposures with no regard to effect. How about audio? The sound was muddy, the music was poor. And acting? The acting was amateurish, bumbling and shrill.

Directing? Luis Llosa must have been on a tight budget. It seems like he did the whole film in one take. Actors were flubbing lines all over the place, but the cameras kept rolling.

Okay, but what about Sandra? She was a raw talent at this point (in more ways than one). This film provides us with her one and only nude scene, which may be its only claim to fame. But don’t rush to the movie store to rent it because of this. Though it is clear she is fully unclad, you really see nothing, which is probably a blessing. I love Sandra Bullock, but let’s face it, she has a body only Popeye could love, and adds nothing to a film by appearing in the buff. Actually, her acting here showed promise, especially in one scene where she is trying to revive a child just rescued from a fire. But there is a clear difference in her skills and confidence compared with present day.

This film is a must NOT see for anyone, especially Sandra Bullock fans. Why mar your good opinion of her. I rated this film a 2/10. It is an appalling waste of time. Why they revived it, I can only wonder.

Your time is more important than this film

There is a reason this movie was shelved for, how long? 7 years? This should be the first hint.

At any rate, I watched this movie with an open mind. I wanted to like it, and enjoy myself, but there just was not much to it. An Idiot reporter runs around p***ing off the locals and Sandra Bullock meets up with him. I guess there is some environmental activist named santos that meets and unfortunate end, and they are sort of involved. The plot of this movie is so really hard to follow. Maybe because there really is not much of a plot at all. The last 15min are sort of exciting, only because you know it’s almost over so you can do something else.

Yes, Sandra has a love scene. No it’s exciting enough to watch this movie.

Ever watched a movie that made you keep looking at the VCR to see how long you had been watching it? That is This Movie!

A thrilling rip-off with unstopped action , intrigue , explosive women and breathtaking ending

Typical Euro spy movie with ordinary ingredients : thrills , noisy action , fights and helicopters . Enjoyable and amusing – thoroughly enjoyed it – the archery/harpoon finale was fun and spectacular . It deals with an evil crime syndicate Thanatos led by Alpha (Anthony Dawson) and Betha (Adolfo Celi) bent on taking over the world, using a magnetic wave generator that will cause all metal-based machinery to grind to a halt. However, the notorious British secret agent normally assigned to such tasks isn’t available, so Commander Cunningham (Bernard Lee) and his helper Max (Lois Maxwell) engage his civilian brother, Neil (Neil Connery) -who “just happens” to look like his well-known agent brother- , to carry out the dangerous operation . The world-class plastic surgeon Neil , who results out to hold precisely the skills in order to thwart the nasty schemes of the crime syndicate called Thanatos. Subsequently , our valiant , easy-going doctor/agent , takes on a cunning criminal organization commanded by Mr Thai . Such close friends… such beautiful enemies…Neil Connery is too much. OPERATION KID BROTHER is Too Much for One Mother!

Run-of-the-mill Euro-spy movie with usual seasonings : gorgeous girls , pursuits , fights , betrayals , fantastic gadgets , strange artifacts , simple helicopters and impressive as well as crowded final . It has some flaws and gaps , as it does tend to get a bit old , including repetitive nature of some fight scenes , but it has big fun , so it cares . Really influenced by Sean Connery’s James Bond series , Eurospy movies and maybe ¨Get Smart¨writers watched this movie before making their series . Neal Connery gives a passable acting as a brave but reluctant doctor turned secret agent , being an expert hypnotist, and lip-reader, who takes on a powerful magnate and having special skills required for thwarting criminal enemies . Neil was especially known for his role in this movie titled MD Experiment 508 Operation Kid Brother A. K. A. Operation Double 007 (as Dr. Neil Connery), a James Bond knock-off featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 as Operation Double 007 . Neal died on May 9, 2021 , 7 months after we lost his prestigious brother Sir Sean Connery . Appearing other actors from OO7 films as Lois Maxwell’s character who here is the brains of the operation and Bernard Lee the famous chief ¨M¨ , and Adolfo Celi who played ¨Thunderball¨ , Anthony Dawson performed in ¨Dr No¨ , and Daniela Bianchi in ¨From Russia with Love¨ and ¨Operation Lady Chaplin¨. Furthermore , the villain Ana Maria Noe playing Lotte Krayendorf bears remarkable physical remembrance to Lotte Lenya , the heinous agent in ¨From Russia with love¨ . From the music by the great Ennio Morricone to the wonderful villain Adolfo Celi to the presence of Daniela Bianchi to the whole feel of the film – it all screams James Bond .

The motion picture was professionally directed by Alberto De Martino . This craftsman Alberto Martino was a nice professional , writer , producer and director who made pictures of all kinds of genres and exploitation movies , such as Terror : Antichrist, Holocaust 2000, 7 Hyden Park, The Killer is on the phone ; Wartime : Dalle Ardenne all Inferno ; Thrillers : Roma vs Chicago, The man of the ice eyes, The Consellour, The Puma Man , Upperseven , Operation Lady Chaplin, The insatiables ; Spaghetti Westerns : Django Shoots first, Seventh Cavalry, One hundred thousand dollars for Ringo and Peplum : Seven Spartans, Invincibles, La Rivolta dei Sette, Medusa against the son of Hercules and The Invincible Gladiator. Rating : 6/10. A decent Euro-spy movie for ordinary aficionados. That was a lot better than I was expecting, I quite enjoyed that.

Actually more enjoyable than a couple of real James Bond films!

The first 20-30 minutes of this are surprisingly good: a fantastic title song (in both the English and the Italian versions!), a rousing score (by Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai), cool gadgets (driverless car), sexy and powerful women (Daniela Bianchi and Lois Maxwell – sexier here than in any official Bond film!), a bon viveur villain (Adolfo Celi), Monte Carlo and Malaga locales, and – last but not least – the sublime atemi (it’s fatal). It slows down A LOT in the middle, but does deliver the expected explosive finale. The production is fairly polished, and Neil Connery, although obviously not a casting find like his brother, is inoffensive. The whole film is very meta, too – in a modern sense. **1/2 out of 4.

Entertaining Euro-spy thriller with James Bond’s little brother

If you’re a fan of the Euro-spy movies made in the 60s, how can you not just love Operation Double 007? Using the success of James Bond as a model, those crazy Italians certainly made some crazy spy movies. This one stars Sean Connery’s brother, Neil Connery (who plays a character cleverly named Neil Connery) as a plastic surgeon / hypnotist / lip reader. With tongue firmly in cheek, we also learn that Neil is the brother of a famous spy and, as his brother is unavailable, the government wants Neil to stand in and give them a hand. Before you can say Dr. No, Neil’s up to his neck in beautiful women, a super-villain with a nuclear device, the obligatory henchmen, archers on horse back, gun fights, car chases, blind Arab rug-weavers, can-can dancers, explosions, underground lairs, and a Japanese woman kidnapped by the world’s most vicious nun/nurse. Don’t worry, it all makes sense in the end (well, sort of anyway). Besides, if there’s a loose end here or there, who cares when you’re having this much fun.

Joining Connery in the cast is a plethora of Bond vets including Daniela Bianchi, Adolfo Celi, Bernard Lee, and Lois Maxwell. It’s a real treat to see them all in a different setting. In particular, it’s great to see Lois Maxwell out from behind that desk she always sat at in the Bond movies. Here, she’s not only gets out in the field, but she gets the chance to mow down baddies with a machine gun as well. Celi, always the bad guy in a movie like this, looks like he’s having the time of his life. There’s at least one scene where it’s not hard to notice a small smile come to his face and you’ve got to wonder how close he came to losing it. But as much as I enjoyed both of these fine actors, I was particularly impressed with the work of Daniela Bianchi from From Russia with Love fame. In Operation Double 007, she gets to play both the good and bad girl, wear some over-the-top outfits, and look generally fabulous. It’s a shame she didn’t go on to do more after this movie. She had a definite screen presence about her.

There are some out there who want to label Operation Double 007 a “James Bond rip-off”. It’s not a rip-off, it’s a parody – and a good one at that. Operation Double 007 was released the same year as the more famous Bond parody Casino Royale. The big difference is that Casino Royale is one big, bloated mess of a movie that’s rarely funny. Operation Double 007, on the other hand, is a blast. In fact, and this may be blasphemous to some, but it’s more fun than about half of the Bond movies. It’s too bad it’s never had a proper R1 DVD release so that more people might discover this movie. The only way I’ve seen the movie is courtesy of a DVD-R of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode on which it appeared. It’s a great episode, but I would love to see a good release without the bots and their comments.

Predictable

As expected a gathering of Trump-loving lackeys justify their hate by spouting the word “God”. Not an honest soul in the bunch!

Ben Carson, Vivek Ramaswamy & Mercedes Schlapp once again prove themselves to be far-right opportunists now grasping for their final 15 minutes of fame. Take a moment to review the past projects of Jason Killian Meath to discover a limited body of work dedicated to pleasing Trump and casting aside anything that America stands for.

I’d call the whole thing a clown show but at least clowns are funny.

Let’s retire the phrase “misinformation” and finally get to a more accurate term: LIES!

A comedy that’s not supposed to be funny.

This “documentary” is laughable. The massive assumptions, hypocrisy and misinformation spewed throughout the film is astounding. It’s “star studded” cast is simply a list of Trump supporters, arguing they are the real victims. That inclusion means oppression. That demanding equality means taking rights away from others. And that for some reason, Disney is the cause of this. It’s absolutely ridiculous. They attempt to argue that Disney should just “shut up” and animate and shouldn’t have values. In short it’s a bunch of angry old men because the world isn’t accepting their argument for the way the world should work.

This “documentary” was difficult to stomach. It is full of false news, ridiculous reasoning, and hateful exclusionary political agenda. It’s based on the completely untrue belief that Disney is “anti-parent” because they have decided to make inclusivity a priority. This film is full of morons spewing their fear and hate based opinions as if they are facts. One old white guy yells a lot about how important it is to say “girls and boys” instead of “everyone” Everyone who was involved in the making of this movie needs to get a life. Embarrassing. Sad. Pathetic. Gross. Disgusting. Nauseating. Don’t watch it.

Don’t be fooled by high scorings this film sucks!

What do you get when you hire a Keanu Reeves look a like and a poundland Megan Fox? A film that sucks goats balls on a huge scale. Not based on the best hitch hiking movie ever the hitchiker of course so this is not even on the same level.

Dialogue which was written by a 5 year old and the most dire of acting on so many levels.

Not going to give any spoilers away because if you read my review you wont watch this movie and you will avoid at any costs.

Unsure why people finance these kind of films because you know your going to get your fingers burnt by a true critic and not one employed by the company churing this rubbish out.

Gave it 1 because there is no zero which sucks like this movie so go figure!

Fresh roadkill?

When I first saw the hitchhiker at the beginning of the movie I thought, ‘oh, cool. Dave Grohl is taking some time away from Foo Fighters and branching out into acting. I wish it had been the rock band’s frontman. He could’ve been the secret axe murderer who is found out near the end is killing everyone with an electric guitar. The actor that actually played the drifter was a yawn at best. One dimensional. His character needed layers and wasn’t given any. Not much onion to peel back.

Carmichael played the lead character and was able to give the role some texture. Once you get past the notion that this movie isn’t a low budget T&A horror flick (no money in the budget for T&A), you then immerse yourself into what Carmichael’s character is undertaking in her current adventure.

It didn’t seem as if the LEOs (law enforcement officers) knew any cop procedures. I’ve watched countless hours of cop video on YouTube and these “TV” cops didn’t seem realistic. I’ve watched perps fight with cops as handcuffs are being put on them. Sometimes it takes three or more cops to get cuffs on the criminal, even females.

Finally, I want to say the waitress gives the most authentic scream I’ve heard in a long time in a horror/thriller flick. Kudos to her.

A nice car…

….doesn’t make for a complete movie. Especially when you film the high-speed chase scenes at15 mph, which is pretty evident. Just watch the yellow lines. To add insult to injury, all of the chase scenes were too long. I guess to bring it up the 90 min run time.

It kind of has a poor man’s “When Mikey met Mallory” (Natural Born Killers) vibe without the (for lack of a better word) romance. There were interesting bits. Enough to make me suffer through the next GD too long slow-speed chase. Danielle Harris brought a good performance considering what she had to work with. There’s are plenty bloody gore scenes, which were handled nicely, a plus for viewers. I liked that the fight scenes didn’t involve dance-fighting, that so many other action driven flicks have been doing for the last decade. That part was refreshing.

Overall a watchable flick with some flaws. I would have rated it higher than 3, but the car chase scenes really blew it for me.

Don’t be cruel

This movie was made by nobodies and first-timers, on obviously no budget. For that it’s actually quite good. Yes it’s rough around the edges. But then it’s a horror movie so it doesn’t really have to make perfect sense.

As for the plot: Young techie types find old hardware that can make ghosts visible. Ghosts don’t appreciate that very much. Bring in burned-down place with plenty of ghosts in it and go for it.

It’s certainly on par with other horror movies that don’t quite work despite having 100 times the budget and big names attached to them. Ghost Project’s makers’ next project will be much more polished and it’s a workable first effort to be honest. The basics are all there, some well executed (jump scares and general mood mostly work), some not so much (love scenes only work if there was chemistry between the characters before it – but big movies make that mistake too).

As I said. Don’t be cruel. A for effort.

So bad it’s not even funny

Just straight up bad. Nothing about the plot makes sense and the acting is not even decent. There were multiple times where I had no idea what was going on, because the plot simply skipped the part were the viewer where supposed to find out.

It’s very technological illiterate, which really doesn’t work together with a movie about programmers. “This a terabyte sender” okay but how does it do it? It just looks like a regular usb to me.

I get secondhand embarrassment for the people in charge of this film.

Also very unnecessary sex scene.

I can’t believe the director actually graduated film school.
