Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli Movie Reviews
One of the best comedy specials in the last 10 years
Holy crap that was funny. This one is right up there with the best comedy hours from Chappelle, C. K., Sandler, Gervais, Rock, etc. – I laughed out loud so many times. It’s hilarious and often over the top, which is exactly what comedy should be in my opinion.
Although Pete Davidson has always been really funny, in his stand up specials as well as in his movies, it feels like he took his art to another level in this one. It’s always a good sign when the special ends and you wonder why it has been so short when in fact it was as long as all the other ones.
I am already looking forward to his next special.
I also sent him a few pairs of used underwear once.
Just Not Funny
I like Pete Davidson. I Loved “The King Of Staten Island”. I just despise his stand up. He is just not funny. I respect his honesty and open story telling. I like his New York attitude. I just don’t find him funny. His delivery is very awkward and ruins otherwise funny material. The weird thing is that his material is offensive, but that never bothers me- it is the fact that many of the lines seem offensive for the sake of being offensive. This one is better than the last one, which was virtually unwatchable. I probably would watch another one if he put it out but my expectations would be more realistic.
More Mature Than His First Netflix Special
I was underwhelmed with Pete Davidson’s first Netflix special, “Alive From New York,” which struck me as a little sloppy and unpolished. It was pretty good, but it was his first special and the potential for well-written jokes was there.
Because of that, I hoped that this second special would demonstrate his growth. And it did. His jokes in “Turbo Fonzarelli” are better worked out and clearly more practiced. He was much more comfortable and confident with his stage presence, and ultimately it felt like the show was more for his fans and less for himself. I’m genuinely excited to watch Pete continue growing and evolving his comedy.
